Took my T4R out to play for first time...now leaking oil

It was a first for me and my 4r out on Hollister trails. After running it through a mud pit, I hit a bump that I didn't see at the end and hit it harder than I should have. I think that's what is causing this leak. Any ideas what this leak is from? Pic is taken pretty much underneath center of my rig. The pic that shows the drippings on the ground is after 24 hours of parking in the same spot. I can post a video of when it happened to if it would be useful.

Looks like it's coming from your transfer case. May have bottomed out on it when you hit that bump? I would try and get a closer look at where the gasket is, perhaps cracked the casing.

Yep...I'm pretty sure I bottomed out. Oh boy...this sounds expensive.

Not really, I've been looking at used trannys and they are cheap!

Wasn't trying to scare you with that cracked casing thing. Just stating a worst scenario situation. I would just start by pulling the skid plate off, clean the case really well and wait for the leak to show up.

It may have gotten some mud packed in the driveshaft seal and now the seal is leaking, who knows at this point.

Yeah, that's the transfer case. Definitely gear oil coming out.

Like others said, clean it up real good and see if you can spot any cracks or abnormalities on the outside. Best-case scenario you might be able to weld over a small crack or something and not replace it at all.

Yeah you never know what lies under the mud or water. I wont cross water more than 6 to 8 inches deep.

Count yourself lucky that you own like literally the most popular SUV in USA. Spares are plentiful and cheap. There is a super clean transfer case in Tucson for $100. Figure another $75 for shipping and you're back on the road for under $200!

Brought it in to have my mechanic check it out. No cracks and it was just leaking from the seal. Seal replaced and it's all good...whew!
