Tool storage ideas?

I keep a toolbox in my vehicles, both for basic auto repairs in the field and also just to have some tools on hand if I'm away from home and need something.

Right now I have everything in a 20-inch hand-carry box (like this: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61n14G5FMDL._SL1500_.jpg). It takes up a decent amount on space in the back and gets in the way if I have the dog back there, so I've been stashing it behind the driver's seat.

Anybody got any better ideas for storing tools without them being in the way? I'd love to use the spaces behind or above the wheel wells but haven't come across a good way to do so.

I carry my essentials in a cheap tool roll from Amazon. It has a space for 10 sockets, and all the essentials. It rolls up and tucks into the compartment on the passenger side.

I've used everything from hard cases to rolls.

I recommend rolls and soft padded tool bags, otherwise you will hear a musical symphony coming from your tool box.

I'm currently using one of these:

I have a basic, but pretty complete, set of tools, jumper cables, ratchet straps, etc...basically most of the things I like to have in the vehicle all the time. It all fits with a little extra room. I am currently contemplating doing some drawers, but not quite sure I'll really use them.

I repurposed a bag that came with one of my porter cable power tools. You know the bags and boxes that come with a power tool you stick on the shelf and never use? Finally found a good use for one. It’s a very sturdy bag and holds a few tools as well as my recovery gear and compressor.

I bought one of these at Sam's Club and tucked it in the pocket behind the passenger seat.
