UPDATE: Got the Discoverer ATP's on Saturday, and really like them so far. Not sure if it's just placebo affect, but it seem to be more stable under braking and less "lean" in the turns. Acceleration seems unchanged. Don't know about mpg, because the other tires only had 100 miles on them. It looks a lot better too, IMO, although I'm sure to catch hell for bucking the trend and going "Old School" with the lettering!
Pics. Not sure why the one is sideways...
Although the BFG's are the gold standard, I have had 2 sets of Cooper AT3's and they have been great tires. Quiet and good grip in both rain and snow.
Also curious if you are running P (SL) rated, C rated or E rated?
Thanks!
Look good. Did you go with the P (SL) rated or E rated? Any updates on performance? I was all set to go with the AT3, but the Discount Tire dude may have convinced me to go with the ATP. He keeps emphasizing that is has better siping (sp?) for the rain.
Thanks!
I have the Cooper AT3's and until this past weekend I was impressed. They are good in snow at slow speeds, but a little ice and they were a complete mess. I was pulling a snowmobile trailer and I have never been so worried about going off the road.
Every patch of ice I was struggling to get any little bit of traction. I have approx 30,000 kms on them. They are coming off this week...
I was between the ATP and AT3. The ATP is also know as the Zeon AT LTZ or something like that on the Cooper website so you can side by side compare. If you're considering the BFG KO, I think the Cooper STMaxx should be considered. I just put them on on Monday (see what did you do in your 5th gen thread for pics). I like them a lot. I was nervous at first of the slight hum like the KOs but I've decided I like it and the look and off-road capabilities seeing others than run them appear to be great for the tire type.
My buddy has the KO2's on his Taco and he has trouble gripping onto wet pavement during sharp turns.
Could it be because there isn't any weight in the back of a Tacoma? I have KO2's and they have been nothing short of outstanding! Especially in wet slushy snow.
