Torn between tires... Cooper AT3 or ATP? vs BFG?

I drive about 99.9% street and .01% off. I want an aggressive looking tire but keep lower mpg. I'm averaging about 19.9 right now and drive 35 miles one way to work 6 days a week. I've had the KO's before and had a tough time in wet conditions. Now with the 4Runner my wife drives it occasionally and I'm in FL were it rains almost everyday.
So my options I'm considering are....

In 275/70R17 size: Cooper Discoverer AT3, BFG KO2, or ST MAxx's
or keep it stock sizing to retain MPG since I most likely wont be doing any crazy lifts with the exception of a Daystar spacer lift.

AT3 you can get the 275 in load range "c". Thee others you have to step up to an "E". More plys = stiffer and more weight.

If you are still considering stock size ook also at the Falken AT3/W.

Thanks, I'm thinking the AT3's really are the smart, mature choice for me. When I get a Trail, I'll get the BFG's. HAHA. and Like i needed more options too, but I did look at the Falken. Good looking tire. With the Cooper's my dealer is doing a buy 3 get 1 for a dollar thingy. SO, yeah

Pretty sure I have narrowed it down to the AT3 in 275 or the ATP in 285. If the ATP came in 275 I'd have already jumped on it.

Don't really see many pictures of the ATP in that size on the Gen 5 and the AT3 in load C makes the choice hard also.

I had the ATP on my 2010 tundra, great tire, low road noise, great wear, and the traction was great.

I just pulled the trigger on the AT3's in C load rating. If that Helps!

What size? And pics please. :) Curious how you feel about the ride.

My goal is to have an adjustable suspension so I can soften the ride even if I have load E's even though I am leaning more towards C.

I went 275/70/17. I didn't go E because I didn't need the extra ply or weight. The majority of my driving is street driving. They should be installed Monday.

After reading this thread a couple months back, I ended up going with at3's in 285. I'm very happy.

I know this is an old post, but I am on my second set of AT3's with load range C and I love them. Best tires I have owned. And I have had many many sets.

I tore a huge hole in the sidewall of an AT3 not too long ago when a tree I was crossing rolled & a limb punctured it. I think the BFG has a tougher Kevlar sidewall. I'm now back to bfgs & very happy with them.

thank u op!

stumbled on this old thread while researching on AT tires. Although it will be a couple more months before I change tires but wanted to be sure that I'll be getting the best fit for my needs. Plan to keep it at stock size 265/70r17, no lifts or modification and was leaning towards the BFG KOs. Although the sticky on one of the tire threads say the stock size would not cause rubbing, I've been seeing some users saying that their BFG KOs get minimal rub from full turns & bumps. Hopefully this is not the case with the Cooper AT3, as price wise and features are on par with what I need.

Are your wheels stock? If so then 265's shouldn't rub not matter what flavor you choose. I just put on 275 AT3's with stock wheels and no rub.

thanks cymon! stock at the moment but on order for trd pro wheels.

The TRD Pro wheels have a different backspacing. Even though they are only 7" wide they are pushed out to give a more aggressive look. You may have minor fender/fender liner rubbing with stock size more aggressive tread tires. They actually trim and modify the fender liners and front fender at port for the TRD Pros because of this.

Here is a link to a post where they describe what they do at port for TRD Pro's.

And here is the link BlacknTan posted on the port trimming instructions.

Never thought about the backspacing on the trd. Looks like i need to log in more hours at work to get the trim done. Lol! Again, thank you for the infos!

I just bought a used 16 4runner that had stock tires on it at about 50% tread. My trade had new Cooper ATP's on it in the exact same size so I made the dealer swap them out.

The appearance alone is a huge improvement.

I don't have any experience with them on the 4runner since I've only had it since Tuesday night, but on the silverado they previously were fitted on they were great. The truck was a 2wd but never had issues in mud or snow with them. They're good tires and the wife loves them so that's why we insisted on keeping them.

Love my T4R but not a fan of the stock tires. Buffed body but skinny legs! LOL!
