So the other day I slid ( at speed) on black ice and rolled and totaled my beloved 4runner.I have only a few small scratches.
Insurance is not paying jack sh*t, and 4 runners up here, well 3rd gens in good shape are near impossible to find. For fun I do watch the sales and if any good, they are gone in a day or two. Ive got tons of spare parts on shellves and a new ARB bumper .
I will look for a 4runner, as well as a taco, but on a limited budget. ( retired and all that junk). A neighbor does have a nice 5th gen, 2012 with 149k that they want 13k for. Prices are high in alaska.
Luckily I have other cars to drive right now. Maybe a taco is better suited for me anyway.

SO in case I dont get back with the forum for a while, I will never forget all the help, advice, friends I have met on this forum, and I will prob continue to look on and give answers where I can offer real answers

Thanks guys

Josh

Dang Man, that sucks. Hope you are all well.

If you are interested, I'll keep an eye out here as we're only a short drive (relatively) away for you. They are plentiful here but do not come up for sale very often. With the lousy exchange rate a 6-7,000 CAD vehicle is peanuts for you guys. That is about the going price here.

Check in periodically and I'll PM if I see anything or PM me a number and I'll text if you like.

Man! That sucks. Glad you are good. I am a decent snow driver but black ice scares the hell out of me. You were one of the voices of reason on the forum. Hope you can find a good Taco or runner..Good luck.

Wow, I'm glad you're ok. All I can say is thank you for your service to the forum. We are all eagerly waiting for you to return with more posts!

You survived a serious wreck with minimal bodily impact. That’s a reason to be very thankful.

Sorry man. We appreciate you on this forum. Hope to see you on here sometimes while you look for your replacement.

If you can stomach visiting Commiefornia, you could find a nice rust free rig for a fair price and drive it back. If you need a place to stay in the People's Republic of Commiefornia, you could stay at my place while you're visiting. I live in San Jose. You could fly into San Jose airport which is 10 minutes from my place and I could pick you up.

Bogus bad news. Glad you are were not injured. You will find another rig..:)

Glad you're ok! Hope this helps:

Insurance may be different in AK, but in general (I used to do auto liability) must return you to where you were before the accident. So assuming you had coverage....find 3 or more examples of a vehicle in condition and miles close to yours. The ins co should pay at least the average cost between the three. Replacement cost. Modifications generally aren't covered so we are talking a stock vehicle here. Do everything in writing, and make sure use the phrase "good faith", especially if you are getting stonewalled. As in "I am making a good faith effort to resolve this claim". If they still try to lowball you then an attorney can help. Don't sign any checks or any documents until and unless you have an acceptable payment in hand.

Sorry to hear about your accident but glad you’re ok.
I enjoyed reading and benefited from your posts and helpful input.
2020 has been a tough year for so many one way or another.
Best of luck to you, considering a Taco is a nice option.

Sorry to hear that. All is good when ever you can walk away from a wreck. Sad your 4r took the brunt of it, it did its job of protecting you. And the good thing is your well enough to inquire about your next ride. Tacos are crazy priced here where I'm at.

finding like examples up here is near impossible is prob part of the issue and maybe why they are trying to go by book value

Sorry to hear this Josh, but so glad that you're OK. I always enjoy your projects and your posts, and hope to see you back here with another 4Runner. I know So CA is quite far from AK, but I'll second (third) other folks here and offer to keep an eye out for one - they are rust free and plentiful!

Bluebook will be a huge loss for you… I might suggest expanding your market to Seattle or somewhere Vancouverish. This will give you a comparison, and a dollar amount… Especially if you tell them that you're willing to go and pay to pick it up. It's the value/replacement value of the vehicle, not the value in a book.

Sad day for the truck, am happy that it was only the truck that was totaled and that you are in good shape.

Best of luck in finding something that fits the bill, quality high and price low!
