i just got my 86 t4r like a month ago and as of yesterday it is totaled. i was drivin down the road and some lady was in the lane next to me and she turned right into me and really messed up my front right bumper (plus headlights and turn signal) and my suspensiion in the front right side. so now i no longer have a 4runner :(. now i have to decide if i wanna get another 4runner or a jeep. im leaning twords the jeep tho

Tho I've never owned a Jeep product, I understand that the Jeep-style ( not the SUV Cherokee, etc, ) are pretty bouncy and uncomfortable to drive.

One thing I can say, I can't ever recall seing a Toyota running down the road billowing blue smoke out the tailpipe. But I've seen several Jeeps and other Chrysler products smokin' like freight trains. That's one of the reasons I bought my daughter a 4 cylinder 99 model Camry. A 4R with a 22re or 3.4L seems to me to be much more reliable.

well the rough ride is part of the fun of a jeep. plus, if you keep a jeeps engine properly maintained those engines will run a long time with no problem. but i still need to shop around and see what i can find in the way of 4runners cuz i already found a good jeep

Really, you've got to be kidding? You mean there is one? What year is it? When did they make it? Where is it? I always heard a rumour that it might be out there but man you are the lucky one to actually find it! Wow.

Sorry, couldn't resist. You left yourself wide open for that one, on a T4R forum no less!
All joking aside, sorry to here about the accident. Hope you are OK and good luck replacing the truck.

My mom had an 88' Jeep grand cherrokee that ran like a top till about 140,000 then water pump and all that jazz started to do so we decided to get our first 4runner. I'm very happy with the trade.

i want it to be fun to drive and fun to work on, i can live without gas mileage and practicality. thats what i want and jeeps are a pretty damn good fit for that, but so are 4runners

Jeeps have been raped over time AMC put car motors in them that just weren't meant to push something like a CJ one road let alone off. Chrysler has all ways been known for shotty quality. Just my take on the situation.

I was faced with the same decision a couple years ago. my buddy has a couple jeeps so I got to test drive a bit and the thing I f0ound was that it just didnt have the kind of room I was looking for. I also didnt like how straight up you sit in them. just my 3 cents
