Totaled!!!

Yeah that's right. I totaled my baby last Friday. It took me a while to post between school, work, and all the bs that goes with vehicle accidents. Thankfully no injuries and an ambulance didn't even show at the scene. My airbags did not deploy but my driver side frame rail dove under the bumper of the Yukon in front of me which explains how all the crumpling occurred to the front end. One pic shows my boot with the heel aligned to the end of the frame rail. I wear a size 12 for reference. The plan is for her to remain on life support until my brother puts her back together. I'm negotiating the insurance payout and plan on taking the check, minus the buy back for my brother to keep my baby, and then I'll go adopt another 3rd gen;):

That sucks man, glad you're ok! I everybody in the Yukon is ok and mentally ok and not prone to BS.

It just took me too long to realize that the person in front of me was actually coming to a complete stop. I couldn't see the car in front of him that was stopped and waiting to make a left into a driveway. I slammed the brakes and swerved to the right but as the pictures show, it wasn't in time. I actually think not hitting the brakes would have caused less damage to me because it would have prevented my frame rails from diving under the bumper of the Yukon I hit. I didn't ask the driver in front if it was an abrupt stop he made but I know it was because I wasn't tailgating and was going under the posted speed limit of 45 mph at the time. It's my fault either way so the circumstances don't really matter.
 
Updated Plan

After my brother pulled off the front bumper, driver side fender, and headlight, he found that the damage didn't travel any farther than the crinkled fender well. He's going to do the repairs for me so I can put my runner back on the road. Yes, he does collision repairs professionally so this is not going to be amateur hour or any kind of hack job. If all goes as planned I should be able to post up new pics before the end of the month

Edit: I wanted to add that it is possible to negotiate a higher insurance payout for a total loss. I was able to get 35% more than the original payout offer by researching the local vehicle market on my own and submitting my findings. A lot of the increase was by lowering the amount they wanted for the buyback. It didn't hurt that I had the title either. :nerd: I know, but if you don't do your own research then they let a company like CCC Valuescope do it for you. Do a google search on this to see how pleased people are with their services. BBB lists them as unsatisfactory

This is what AIG decided to total

Finally got the runner back on the road after well over a month. I still need an alignment but everything else is good as new!

Just a question from your first post: So does this involve a salvage title, are you keeping it or getting a replacement?
 
No salvage title and I'm definitely keeping it. The insurance company told me that because the vehicle was over 8 years old that it would not be salvaged. I've also been told that if you want to prevent a totaled vehicle from being salvaged you have to immediately buy it back from the insurance company as soon as the adjuster has assessed the vehicle. I am curious to see what a carfax report would show on it though.
 
The whole situation started off bad, but it seems like it turned out ok.

The repair work looks good and so does the new hood.
