Touch Up Paint Pens

So, I managed to put a couple of 1-2" scratches on the back hatch of my 3 week old TRD ORP. Wife backed it into the garage, I raised the hatch and whacked it into the handle bars of a bike hanging on the wall. DOH!

Since it's my wife's, I did what any good husband would do and told her "I'll get it fixed." Got 3 estimates from local body shops: 2 for $550 and 1 for $900+. They all claimed they'd have to remove the hatch and trim and paint the whole thing.

So, I'm broadening my horizons and exploring other options. Any of you have experience using touch up paint pens? Looks like Paintscratch.com and Touchupdirect.com are the two major players in this arena. Anyone used them before? I'm probably leaning toward touch up direct. Youtube videos make it look pretty easy. Thanks!

There are probably a lot of people here with more experience in fixing paint than me but, in my experience, I have had nothing but disaster with paint pens unless they are used in super discreet places, i.e. on the lip of a bumper.

I feel that unless you are very good at wet sanding, you can't get it right. However, I always have used the manufacturer paint pens. The color is usually right with them, but again, I wouldn't recommend them for use on scratches anywhere eye level.

They'll work for something minor. I used them to cover up some scratches that are right on my fender, and they are pretty easy to spot in the right light. Not a great fix. Though I admittedly don't know much about fixing paint.

Dr. Color chip is better

Go with Dr. Color Chip. Application is better and if you have the patience you can wet sand with a high grit to level out the paint.
