Touch up paint.

I would like to fill in those little door dings and chips in the paint that go down to the metal. Any recommendations on doing this and do you have to buy the touch up paint from the dealer or is there other places like auto parts store that have decent matching paint for Toyos?

I hear you on this one ... I just got a nasty little door ding at ... of all places ... the dealership while my T4R was parked after being serviced. Some ignorant customer slammed their door open into my driver's door ... arrgghhh!

Toyota Canada sells a touch-up paint product that comes in a container that resembles a pen .... so a paint pen if you will. Goes on more like a dabber than a paint brush.

I'll be taking my paint code to a local automotive refinishing/paint store and have a small can of touch up paint mixed there. I've used them before for previous vehicles and have been happy with their color match.
 
I buy duplicolor oem from oreilly, autozone, or advance auto. They have Toyota oem colors in a touchup pen/brush and spray cans. I've used both and they match perfectly

Here is a tip I forgot to mention. In cold weather areas where the temp gets to cold to use paint, a good temporary fix is to use a crayon that matches your paint color. This will help protect the exposed metal.
 
I tried duplicolor (autozone brand), dr color chip, and automotivetouchup... duplicolor was ok but got paint all over my fingers and didn't seem to match, color was a little too dark. doctor color chip was all dark as well. automotivetouchup seemed to be a better match than both in my experience.
 
Hi, i bought touch up paint from the dealer, contained paint and clear coat in one and obviously matched perfectly! Only cost about $6 for the pen sized one. I had previously bought touch up piant for another suv from another source and it didnt match so now i used only the dealer saves time and money and always matches.
 
I also bought the touch up paint from the dealer and it is way to go. Here's a tip that a paint guy recommended to me...use the back of a paper match, you know the furry side when you tear it out of a pack, to apply the paint. It has better control than the pen.

Also, plan on going back and doing a touch up again later. It kind of "bays up" a little in a deep ding and you can't get it all in one shot.

i just bought an 06 Sport and there are a couple of very small rock chips on the hood that go down to bare metal where rust is visible. any suggestions on best product to use for rust removal or conversion before touching it up with paint?

is there a method to using the touch up paint pen? Does it go on light?

i've seen some bad touch up jobs before where it looked like someone drew a line with a marker. IMO the scratch looks better.
