Tough choice for Tundra coils. Give me your opinion . . .

I am talking with a salvage yard and they have these two options:

A set of Tundra coils with bilstein shocks off of a 2002 with 98k miles on them

or

A set of Tundra coils with the stock OEM shocks, but literally with 1000 miles on them. The are from a 2000 Tundra prototype.

Both are 4x4s, I dont know of the color code. But I read an article on ultimate yota where a guy tried different set ups and said the three different Tundra coils all gave him about the same lift. His conclusion was that you dont need the TRD Tundra coils for a lift. And if I only get 1.5 out of it Id be happy. Thats really all I want. My number one concern is a better ride than what I have now.

So what would you guys do? The setup with 98k could be slightly worn out, though he said the shocks look good. But with that many miles they could go at any moment and need to be replaced anyway. The set from the prototype gives me the option of just keeping the OEM shocks if the ride is nice, or selling them and getting some bilsteins. And Id be getting almost brand new coils. The set with bilsteins are $150 total and the set from the prototype are $200 total.

I don't think you'll see much better ride quality with either. Those coils are thicker and heavier...designed for more weight. If you have extra weight, then they ride great. But without at least an extra 100-150lbs, they are nothing special. When I had mine on my old rig WITHOUT the skids, it rode ok. But adding the 100lbs of skids made a huge difference.

I'm running the 4x4 Tundra coils from an Access Cab and love the ride....but I guess everyone has their own tastes.

quicksilvr you also had a 1" spacer on top. I like the ride of my y/y y/b Tundra's. They are firmer than stock, but not stiff. Like I've said before the advantage of going with the Tundras is you get progressive coils. Did you pass on those coils I pm'd you?

Ya cause they were just the coils right? no shocks

So I just called the lady selling those again. I guess those are a pretty good deal. I think I may actually go through with them after all since they are the TRD coils. I'll let you know.

I'm running the 3/8 Toytec top plate spacer too...gives me a little more lift to match closer to my 8 wraps. There is still quite a bit of rake, but I like it.

What are you running in the back??

Im running performance products coils in front and back. But Im getting rid of them also for a set of 7 wraps for the improved ride. How does your truck feel with the 8 wraps?

even $140 is good for the coils/shocks. I drove about an hour an a half for mine and paid $200. They ride nice though, I'm happy with them
