Tow dolly or Trailer????

Need to transport my 89 runner about 250 miles to leave at my hunting club, the cost for the trailer is only $16 more than the dolly, which would you do?

If I could do the dolly without having to drop the drive shaft I might would do that.

Let me know what you guys think is easier or the better option.

Easier = trailer
Better = trailer

As long as your tow rig can handle the weight of the trailer+truck that is the way to go. If you rent one they usually come with inertia brakes if you are not wired up for trailer brakes.

Trailer...ever tried to back up a dolly? Damn near impossible

I have a 07 Tahoe 4x4 think it will handle it. It tows my 22ft boat fine.

I don't want to be an a$$. 22ft is not a weight measurement. :wink2: I couldn't resist.

If you are talking about the uhaul trailers. The straps that come with it only tie down/wrap around the tires in the front, and then it has a safety chain that you are suppossed to hook on something else. If your tires are over 31" those straps may not be long enough and you will have to get an extension.

And don't just use those straps eventhough uhaul might say that's all you need. Get some trucking tie down straps to keep it from moving front to rear. And I would also get some straps to pull it down and compress the suspension. I attach one end to the tow hooks and the other to the trailer and tighten it down. I find otherwise it hops around. It doesn't hop off the trailer, but it wobbles so it throws its weight around possibly making the trailer unstable. Stop and tighten some more if it does. I spent more on straps than on trailer rental cost. But now I always have them.

Other than that, I've used those uhaul car transporters quite a few times now, and they work good. If your tow rig can pull it all, its really the best way. Other wise you need to disconnect your driveshaft. And I'm not sure the uhaul dollys have brakes. It's not part of the description, whereas the car transporter has trailer brakes as part of the description.

YES! was towing my car on the back of a uhual and came up to an accident on a freeway construction zone. Tried backing up and it was more than damn near impossible! Always splurged for a trailer after than nightmare.

Try backing peanut wagons up to the dryer! Thanks for the input guys, gonna do the trailer when i do it. Got some extra straps from a buddy of mine that hauls cars for a living. And my boat weighs about 4K not counting trailer.
