Tow Hook.

So the guys who put my brushguard on a while back seemed too have removed my front tow hook (that or I never had one to begin with). Basically, theres no where to hook up too in the front.

My buddy's dad owns a welding shop and I've talked to him about getting him to weld a new hook on the frame. I just want you guys' opinion's on where I should ask him to weld it at, what kind of hook I should take him, etc.

I would suggest you get a new bolt on hook instead of welding one on. I'm sure your buddys' dad is a good welder, but you just never know just how strong a weld is, especially when you weld cast iron to thin sheet metal (chassis rail). A bolted hook is much less likely to break off during 'heavy duty' use.
Just something to think about.

You know I was thinking about that. But what about reinforcing the bolt by welding the nut on?

man that sucks, kinda the same thing happend to me.

when i gotmy brushguard i had a guy weld me some brackets, so it will all bold onto the frame.

but the guy did a crappy job so i had to go back and get it dont right, but anyways bolting the tow thigy ismuch better, u can remove it when ever u want, and restore you 4runner back to factory, just get some longer bolts and bolt that sucker on.

I would think that if a bolted hook was being stressed real bad it would bend and shift. A welded one might just snap.

When I got my westin hoop bar I had to turn my hook around (made it useless). The bracket to bolt up the bar was the same thickness as the tie down loops (not recommended for recovery) that share the same bolt as the hook. I got a TJM-15 now and when I called TJM about front recovery points (I lost the hook w/the TJM), they only recommend a winch or something bolted to the frame. And if Steve at sonoran steel is offering THESE as a bolt on, its probably for a reason. They are pricey though. You wanna make sure your right when dealing with recovery points (it is dangerous). If ya wanna just go OEM than HERE are the hooks.

have them make a bracket to mount some d shackles to the front. those should hold up if the bracket is made right
