Hey guys so i have a 2006 v6 4runner 4.0 l and i am towing a camping trailer that weighs 3500empty and 5000 lbs full. My towing capacity is 5000. I installed a high performance tranny cooler and the brake control. I also installed a transmission temperature gauge. My normal temperature without a tranny cooler and trailer is 160. After i installed the tranny cooler my temperature is 170 which is not bad at all. so any suggestions to what i should do??? I dont wanna mess up my 4runner with only 30,000 miles on it. :sobbing:

thanks:cowboy:

The 4runner can actually tow up to 6200 lbs with a different hitch...instead of that little hitch. Might want to look at that.

Unless you're towing your camping trailer 20-30 times a year... you're going to be fine.

170 is normal.

Your temperature will vary in a trans depending on a ton of other factors. You don't need to worry unless your cooking the oil, which you are not.

You are right at your upper towing weight limit. If you are comfortable with the way the trailer tows, it is riding level without sway problems, and the rear end of your 4Runner is not sagging too much, you should be OK. If any of these things concern you, then you should look into a weight distribution system for towing. But, this will require replacing the standard V6 receiver hitch with a frame mounted one, so a weight distribution system will work properly. There are numerous threads on this issue in the forums with lost of good info.
