Towing accessories for 5th gen

Looking for recommendations for:

Brake controller
Aux tranny cooler
Aux oil cooler

Also I've read conflicting opinions on weight distributing hitches. While this is the best route to go apparently the way the hitch mounts to the cross member and not the frame rails a WDH probably isn't a good choice for our trucks.
so next best option would be airbags so...

Only brake controller to even consider IMHO is the Teconsa Prodigy 2 or 3.
Aux tranny cooler would be the B&M or the Tru-cool 24k GVW rated ones.
Airbags would be the Firestone.

Are you guys talking about the Tekonsha?? If so the P3 is the way to go you"ll never need to buy another as you can transfer it between vehicles as long as you have the harness and works with and type of brake electric or hydrualic and up to 4 axles IIRC

Facotry Location of Brake Controller Plug on 2008 SR5

I seen a video of installing a brake controller on a 2004 SR5. Is the factory controller plug on a 2008 SR5 also located behind the driver side kick panel near the emergency brake? I just bought a Prodigy 2 controller and need to install it. Best regards, Doug

Not exactly sure where the plug is on the 4th gens, you could either ask over in the 4th gen section or check your owners manual.:shrug:

I upgraded to the P3 with our newer trailer and it's an amazing controller. The trailer really feels it's working with the truck rather than against it with my last controller.

Same here, I got the P3 and love it.

For the airbag, Firestone is the way to go. I got them and it's been doing a good job yet.

I don't like Air Lift's design, the air inlet is on the bottom, so the inlet hose moves along with the suspension, bad idea IMO.

As for the hitch mounted on your truck, you can replace it with a lexus WDH, which is bolt on and will be a lot stronger.

I agree on the Airlift inlet being placed in a dumb spot. I like them, but hindsight I would have done Firestones to keep the inlet to the top. They have yet to come loose, but hooking the airline up proves quite challenging in the limited space given on the bottom.

WDH concerns

Not sure why you're concerned about using a WDH with a 5th gen 4Runner. I've seen some comments on the potential problems with the 4th gen, but my 2012 manual specifically talks about using a WDH to balance the load on the front axle and it makes no mention of not being able to do that with the factory hitch. Do you have some reason to be suspicious of using a WDH with a 5th gen?
