Towing car on dolly

Ok I'm thinking about buying a broke down third gen to rescue. But, I think I might have to tow it with my third gen 180+ miles home. Do you think this will be a good or bad plan of action.

I would personally tow it on flat trailer, 180 miles is far to tow it from the rear. U could tow it from the front if u disconnect the driveshaft at the rear end and tie it up out of the way.

I've pulled a car with both a dolly:

And a flatbed:

Neither car being quite as heavy as a 4runner, I can still recommend the flatbed over the dolly. It feels easier to control plus, has its own brakes. Both were pulled pre-transmission cooler, with care and attention to the fluid temperatures. The Jetta was pulled 110 miles both way with zero issues, and made 11mpg which is not horrible I think.

A 3rd gen probably has 1000 lbs over a Jetta. I have pulled lots of cars on a dolly, once from SL to NM with no problems. I had all my upgrades then. I never wanted to tow with the flatbed because according to Uhaul, the trailer weighs 1800 lbs empty plus 3,xxx of a car. Puts you right at the limit of 5,500 lbs.

Pull the rear drive shaft once you get it on the dolly and go.
