I am looking at purchasing an '04 4R Limited with a 4.7 liter V-8. It has a factory tow package (not sure if its a class III or IV) and the owner's manual indicates the towing capacity at 7,000#'s and tongue at 700#'s. When I searched for class III type hitches, the max tow capacity is 5,000#'s and tongue weight is 500#'s. The class IV type max is 10,000# and 1,000# respectively. The hitch is a round tube frame that is attached to the chassis. My question before I make my purchase is will I have enough towing capacity to pull a 22' hybrid travel trailer weighing 4,300#'s dry wt and 5,600#'s GVWR. The tongue weight is 585#'s. I do plan on having a weight distribution hitch to help with weight balance and sway. Are there any 4R owners that tow lite weight travel trailers? What is your experience? Will I have enough to pull this trailer? Do I need to upgrade the transmission cooler? Thanks, James.
