Towing Question.

Its not built in, but its pre-wired for one. You should have gotten a wiring harness adaptor when you bought the truck.
I just bought a Tekonesha Prodigy with the vehicle specific harness for Toyota. Made wiring a snap. Super easy to install or un-install. The only thing you had to do was plug it in. The prodigy also mounts quite nicely on the fuse box door to the left of the steering wheel.
I left the Prodigy mounted to my old fuse box door and bought a new one from Toyota for when I'm not using it.
I use the controller when I tow my S2000 to track events, so figure a 3000lb car on a 1500lb trailer. Worker great.

There is a harness provided from the dealer to connect the brake controller. Mine was in the glovebox, my co-workers was in the back with the other stuff they tucked away in those compartments. As I remember, the manual shows the location of the connector.

BTW, the instructional DVD that comes with the Prodigy shows various tow vehicles towing various trailers. One of the tow vehicles is a 4Runner. It also looks like the instructional DVD was filmed using a 4Runner for the mounting of the Prodigy. The dash area looks very familiar.

Are you all saying that there is a seperate wire harness that plugs from the brake controller to the plug under the dash? why would the brake controller not just plug directly to the plug under the dash?

FYI, there are some "higher priced" SUVs that do not give you the adapter plug with wires like Toyota does. You actually have to Pay For It.

As stated the 4Runner comes with a universal wiring adapter/harness that you splice into the brake controller's wiring and you just plug it into the factory plug under the dash. Even better; some of the better controllers can be had with a direct wiring adapter that attaches to the controller and your plug under the dash with splicing.

Actually, the ball is not normally supplied with the vehicle, only the ball mount ("slide the ball bolts on to"). But I found my aux harness in one of the storage compartments in the rear.

Oh well, it seems Koz has found some systems that will work if I need one (currently use surge brakes)......I sure don't remember ever seeing that adapter though.....I did get the 5 (or 7) pin trailer light hook up that was nice of them to supply.
