Towing question

Has anyone towed a car on a trailer with their 3rd gen 4runner? I have a 97 3.4 liter. It has a 3" lift on it, and I'm looking to tow a model A about 6-7 hours away.

The Model A is about 2500-2800 pounds, and the towing limit I think is 5000 pounds. I realize that is considering a half a tank of gas, and the trailer weight is included in the max weight, but I'm wondering if anyone else has towed another vehicle on a trailer with their 4runner and if they felt it was up for the job.

i was towing my 1979 mustang to school and had no problems with it i just felt unsafe. reason i felt unsafe was because it was a tow dolly and the front end sat to low to the ground so we had to have the rear on the dolly and the wobbly front on the ground anyting over 30 mph and the thing would shake but if you have a regular trailer you should be just fine oh and say good bye to any gas you have i used a 1/4 tank driving 10 miles to my school

I just towed my tent trailer to oregon from cali this last week. That is with a lift, 33's and a supercharger. I still managed to get about 18mpg. You will have no problems. Yo might bog down a little bit pulling grades but other than that you should be fine

I towed a little car, 85 mazda GLC sedan, from utah to texas on a uhaul tow dolly, i did install a trans cooler before the trip, averaged 15mpg but got better at higher elevation... the lower i got the worse i got. I drove it nice, and used the accelerator down hil and coasted up, never dropped under 50mph tho, it was a 1300mi trip. i wouldnt do it again tho. check your oil regularly might burn some.

I have a 2.7 I4 and routinely tow a 1000 lb motorcycle on a two wheel trailer -- I've also towed a Harley w/sidecar on a larger trailer with no ill effects. Simply stay within the stated tow limits of your tow vehicle...and understand you'll sacrifice mpg...

I have a 2wd, 3.4
I tow a 24' boat, which is about 6000 lbs uphill in the AZ heat. I havent had any issues. I get terrible gas mileage but it does the job.

PS: pulling the boat out of the water is always a scene though

Good Luck on your trip
