Towing question

Hey all, it's been awhile since I've been on here. My parents are in the market for a boat. I was wondering if it would kill my car driving a 19 foot 2000 Mastercraft 195 from Scranton, PA to Cleveland, OH. The trip overall is about 7 hours. Btw, I have a 2008 V6 4wd with about 18k miles on it.


I have another question as well. I was wondering how wakeboarding off the back of a 2002 Seadoo X20 would compare to wakeboarding off the back of a 2000 Mastercraft 195.

You will be fine with that weight. Ensure that everything is connected the right way. If you dont know how to hoo up/have never towed before get help from a local hitch dealer etc.

Cant comment on the wakeboarding - how much HP does the seadoo have?
 
The seadoo has, I believe, 250 hp? The Mastercraft has 350hp. The problem really isn't being able to launch, because once you get going, you're really only gonna be cruising at 20mph. The question I have is about the size of the wake.

I've towed jetski's before with a Landcruiser, but they def. cut the cars life in half.

What year land cruiser?

The wake is not big enough to get "air" from no. You'll only really feel a bump.
 
What's different between my '08 4Runner and the '95 Landcruiser that my car would do better with a heavier boat? And also, I know I could tow the boat, but would it be logical, or healthy for my car for 7 hours on the highway?
 
Shouldn't be a problem towing that at all. Suggest maybe a Weight Distribution type hitch though(class-V). I got mine from Curt.com for something like $175 shipped.They have a solid bar across back that bolts to the side frames. I tow a 16' fishing boat thru some high passes in rocky mountains with my V6, no problems.

Your car should be fine. Use 4th if you have the 5spd trans and use 3rd if you have the 4spd trans.

Dont speed, dont drive like an A-hole, allow plenty of room for breaking and you and the car will be fine.

The 95 land cruiser was fitted with IMO an anemic inline 6 cylinder engine. The engine was weaker than yours on a vehicle that weight 1500lbs more.

Trust me, many ppl have towed more weight than you w/ the V6 runner and have been fine.

Class V is a little extreme no?

What is the WDH on the V8? III or IV?
 
I was planning on using the hitch that came w/ the car. I just need to get the ball, and I guess the wires to plug into the factory plug?

I'm trying to talk my dad into the Mastercraft, but my brother wants a seadoo because he doesn't want to get ran over and cut up by the propeller... :bash:
 
Well the thing that's nice, is that I only have to pick the boat up and put it in the water. We're going to keep the boat in the water at the cottage. And then when the season's up, I have to take it out of the water and put it in storage.
 
OK, in that case the built in hitch should be fine. Make sure the brakes on trailer are working OK, wheel bearings lubed and decent tires. Your're ready to go!
 
I have been reading horrible things on the Seadoo's ability to be a wakeboard boat. I need some help convincing my dad. The only argument I have is that the Mastercraft is far more superior in every way than the Seadoo.
