Towing question!

I'm getting ready to buy a 20' cc, the seller looks at my 4 runner and tells me I have to buy a whole new bumper. Is that true? I have an 2007 4 runner V6 SR5

Fully rigged I wont exceed 6000 lb, but do I need to do suspension modifications or get a tranny cooler?

Defiantly get the trany cooler but I'm pretty sure your fine as long as your have good weight rated tires. the rear end would sag a little and if you don't want that than get a air suspension.

Thanks for the reply.

Do I have to buy a whole new rear bumper? The one with a hitch hole in the bumper?

Sorry bout the cell phone pics but you get the idea :bigok:

5,500-6,500 lbs. however I only use it to pull my friends out when they get stuck I only towed with it once and it was a race car the weighed 3000 lbs.

You don't need a new bumper. It has nothing to do with towing. What you will need is a frame mounted hitch like in Skylines pics. The stock V6 hitch is only mounted to the cross member and is limited to 5000lbs (500lb tongue wt) and is not to be used with a weight distributing system. The frame mount can up it to 7300lbs (for the V8) with a weight distributing hitch. At 6000lbs you'll definately need a wdh, but most cc trailers won't have frames that can accept one.
The frame/suspension/hitch may be able to handle the weight but you're over limits with a V6. Speaking from experience it won't be a comfortable experience towing over 5000lbs even with a V8.

OK, I give up, what is a "cc" trailer?

In any case, if the total towed weight of the trailer and load is going to be 6,000 lbs, you will need to upgrade the stock 5K V6 hitch, and a trans cooler would be highly recommended. As for a weight distribution hitch, it would be a good idea, if the frame on the trailer tongue will work with a W/D system.
