Towing with 35's

Hey guys so, in the next few weeks ill be trading up to 35's ill have to run them with the stock 4.30 gears for a while, but my question is what will this do to the towing capacity, for instance, the rating for our trucks is 5000lbs, so after the added stress from the bigger tires, would it be safe to say that 4000lbs should be the max i should tow with them until upgrade with 4.88's. Not that i will be towing 4000lbs, i will be towing a 16.5' Fiberglass Cadorette with 60hp outboard. Thanks

these trucks can tow a lot more than that. it just harder on the truck and it wont be fun with 35"s and stock gears. and will use a lot more gas.

^^Best answer you could get. These things run just fine on stock gears and 35's. They aren't muscle cars so not a big deal in the minor power loss for going up in tire size. It won't be the best ride ever but it will handle the weight. I'd be current on obvious things like brakes and fluid changes...enjoy.

I wouldn't tow the limit running 35's, first off you will be running a bit low on power running turning a tire that is 4" diameter bigger than stock, so you won't be able to get up to speed too good, and hills won't be fun, fuel economy will be more than terrible, the transmission will either be lugged in one gear or wound out in the one below and also with the added stress of the 35's and towing if it doesn't have an external cooler it may overheat, and then you probably won't have too great of engine braking, so you are basically relying on just your brakes to stop, and it could fine if you have the tundra brakes, but if you don't, thats a real hazard, especially if you don't keep adequate distance.

thanks for the comments guys, i know its gonna be a rougher ride and horrible on gas, i was just wondering what the new "MAX" weight limit i should keep in mind. As of right now, whenever i go anywhere with a trailer, it goes into passing gear and downshifts quite often and the O/D off usually makes it sit around 3000rpm on the highway which om not comfortable with, I have an external tranny cooler, 199mm brakes, running on 33's right now. Its also got a heavier front end steel bumper and winch.
