Towing with the T4R Questions

Has anyone here towed a car trailer (Uhual car trailer) & car with their T4R?

My previous truck was a diesel Tahoe, so towing was no biggee, but now I need to tow my MR2 and I'm curious if the 5VZFE and slush box can hack it. I can picture the T4R being slower than continental drift while having an extra 4500# behind it...

Any other comments/suggestions?

Its pretty much going to come down to whether or not you can stop!! Thats why most people that tow all the time put Tundra brakes on.
 
Trailer brakes and make sure to turn OD OFF on your selector. You can do it and I have without trailer brakes. Was a very fun exciting 15 miles in stop and go traffic. Main issue was stopping at the end of it, brakes had faded pretty good.
 
From my experience I towed a 12' x 6' uhaul fully loaded with my 97 4runner 4x4 260k no problem from Seattle,WA to Sacramento,Ca. Only stopped for gas. Didn't over heat or nothing unusual happened. Very dependable. I also towed cars on a trailer fine too. U should be good.

Hmm wonder how much my 2.7 with 5spd can tow a car trailor with my supra on it lol.

Ive towed my full trim Cressida (3480lbs) on a U-Haul car trailer from Fontana, CA to Modesto, CA (390ish miles) with my 02 T4R. No issues at all.
 
As others have said, stopping is the problem, not the going.

Make sure the trailer has electric brakes. I'd feel way more comfortable with a lightweight AL trailer. I don't know exact numbers, but I'm sure that Uhaul trailer weighs a ton. Maybe literally...

I just looked it up, it weighs 2210#.

Not sure how much the MR2 weighs... I'd be VERY careful with that setup...
 
Hey, saw your question. Well about 1month ago i got a deal on a 95limited. Breaks was not working too good, so i Use my 96Limited, got an Auto-trans (Largest Car trailor ) u-hal has. I loaded My new purchase on the trailor hoocked to my 96limited and drove home with it about 30miles. Not one problem everything went great without a hitch.
 
You also might want to consider a tranny cooler, if you will be towing on a regular basis. I have a 3800lb boat and trailer that I tow on a regular basis( I have a cooler) and have no issues. Trailer brakes are a must for those weights.

Without a hitch??? I haven't been able to tow anything without a hitch, not to mention that big of a load. Very impressive! :)
 
I guess I should have said what I pulled with my first post. I was over the 5k tow capacity since I had a Chevy 2500 with contractor box on it ( approx 6500) then add trailer weight so probably pushing 8k. I only did it because of the short distance, also the reason for the noticeable brake fade where others that have posted said it wasnt an issue. I still recommend if you are towing anything on a regular basis to get and use trailer brakes.
 
i think i got all of you on this one :p i installed a trans cooler, and towed a small 85 mazda sedan from salt lake city utah to austin texas something like 1400miles. no trailor brakes, no issues. on a u-haul car dolly thingy.
 
i towed a 2001 sebring from jackson, ms to memphis. (3 hours). no problems. no issues breaking. car dolly had no issues either. i was pulling with a 2000 4wd. i just hit overdrive off, and still got 17 mpg.
