towing

hey guys, im new to towing with my 4runner and wanted to know if you should put it ind d or 4, in my old truck u couldnt keep o/d on when towing and i thought maybe its the same in this. i have an 06 runner with the v8 if that makes a differance. thanks!!

Toyota recommends not to tow in D, but instead 4. What are you going to be towing?

I've been towing a 4200# boat for several thousand miles and have always kept it in D unless going over hills. If your trans doesn't hunt (shift up shift down to much) there is no problem keeping it in D. It drives calmer (less noise) and will safe you a couple of bucks on gas also.
