Toyo Open Country/Back Country A/T vs "Mazama" Open Range A/T Les Schwab

Les Schwab carries both of these. Salesperson steered me away from the Toyos and to the Mazamas. All the Service trucks in the lot had the Mazamas, but the new Toyo A/T 3 gets high marks in another thread here. Anyone have any experience with the Mazamas?:suspicious: Mazamas DO carry the 3 peak snowflake stamp on the sidewall.

I'd guess they're steering you to the Mazama's because they're Les Schawb's private label brand and they probably have a higher margin on them. From doing a little searching, they are made by Sumitomo, but they look horrible IMHO. That sidewall lettering looks like a kid did it with crayons.

Totally agree about the lettering and general look. Expensive, but just looks janky.

I would look at getting the Toyo AT3 or the Falken AT3W (not at Les Schwab). From what I've seen Les Schwab tires usually have a premium price tag on a private label - bad or good TBD, but when I'm spending that type of money I'd rather get a tire which is proven at a better price.

I've got the Falkens and love them, I would have tried out the Toyo AT3 (had AT2's on my old Suburban and they were great) but they hadn't been released in a 255/80 when I purchased.

I'm a fan of LS customer service. They patched my OEM Bridgestones when I picked up a nail. No charge. They swap out my mounted snow tires on my Outback every November and April, no charge. On the Friday of Memorial day weekend, I blew my brakes out on 97 south, about 7 miles from Goldendale, WA. Limped in at 5:45 pm to the Goldendale Les Schwab. Manager was just closing up, but took me in and actually lent me his pickup to drive to Subway to get dinner as he worked after hours on my brakes. And they jog out to meet me when I pull up. I like the Cooper discoverers much better, and the price is better at Pep Boys. Decisions, decisions.....

Update: Mazama tires/Les Schwab

Sprung for the Mazama's during LS's "Founders Day" sale today. Same size, 265/70/R17. Drove away under $1k, which makes me happy. Full LS warranty. They've been great so far in a unusual Seattle snow event. I was looking for Falken Wildpeaks or Cooper Discoverers, but the shops I called (Pep Boys, tire Pro, Costco...) were all like "Sure, give me the size and I'll order them. maybe a three to five days out." Les Schwab: Dropped off at 8 am with no appointment, picked up at 9:30am. And there were four people in front of me. Quiet also. I'd upload a photo, but rescuing the Chilean miners was easier than uploading a simple effing .jpeg to this site. Any hints?
