Updated Toyo Open Country AT-III

Looks like Toyo just released their updated Open Country all-terrain, the AT-III. Looks like limited sizing initially but I'm sure they will have more sizes available later on. However a quick glance shows the common sizes available and they're pretty light weight. Most notably the one that has my eye is the 285/75/17 C-rated that weighs 59 pounds. That seems like the perfect balance of size, weight, and load rating for our 4Runners.

No mention if they're 3-ply sidewall but I'm guessing not. They are 3 peak snow flake rated and Toyo gives it a generous 5.0 rating in winter handling and 4.5 in wet handling so this sounds like an excellent option for those in the mountains, midwest, or northeast. Will be interested to see how it really performs once they get out there.

I'll be giving these a try when up-size tires to the 285/75/17 and re-gear.

Oh nice, the 265/70/17SL tires are 41lbs. Same weight as the stock tires so it's a good alternative to those who are worried about MPG.

I ran the ATII on my Tacoma in LT-C 265/75-16 and felt pretty neutral on them. They weren’t bad, but they weren’t great. Overall, I preferred the AT-KO2.

With that said, I’m still interested in these in the LT-E in 265/70-17 at 48lbs. I don’t expect to need new tires On my 4R for a couple more years, so I’ll have to watch user experience with these.

Good looking tire and nice specs. 285/75 is my go to size in tires for our rigs, nice to see some more tires available in that size. Seems pretty similar all round to the Discoverer AT3 XLT except for the snow flake rating and the XLT is an E. I'll look forward to hearing how they preform

They make the size for the Limited 20". Nice looking tires and handle fantastic in snow.

Hmmm. Nice option. I am not too far off from needing new tires. I have 255/80R17 Toyo RTs, which I have been super happy with, but I'm considering going to more of an AT since it is my daily and the RTs are getting a bit noisy in their old age... or my old age, not sure which. I wish someone would make a 275/75R17 I think that would be a perfect size.
It will be interesting to see how these new tires perform and how the sidewalls hold up.

How is the OWL version of the same LT285/70/17 3 lbs. lighter than the BSW version of the same E rated tire? Am I missing something that's different between having white lettering over a black sidewall?

I'm running the P rated 285/70 Toyo Open country AT II's right now. I'd like to move up to the 75's. Anyone know if I'd need to do a BMC?

Yes you'll need a BMC. Need to get after the fender liners too. Push your caster out as far as you can, say 4*-4.5* it's much easier. Depends a lot on your wheel offset etc

It's correct. If you look at the load & speed rating along with max PSI it definitely is a C-rated tire. I too am excited for a 285/75 c-rated tire that weighs 59lbs.

Ha! It's definitely not the most exciting tire to look at. Based on looks alone, I think the KO2 takes the cake.

Weight vs size info

Hey guys. Disclaimer! Not lookin to stir the pot or derail the thread.

I have been looking for tires and wanted to go to 285 but wanted something with a more conservative tread pattern. My serious off road days are over.

Anyway, with regard to weight, I did some research on a popular tiresize web site and compiled the info to help ME decide. I was looking for a 285/70r17, C/standard load tire that didn't weigh a ton and had good road manners. The ATIII isn't listed because it's so new but if you are looking for weight vs size info, I have attached my chart. Keep in mind, these are only tires I WAS INTERESTED IN. So no heavy mud stuff or any with aggressive tread.

Hopefully this is helpful to some of you. The chart is sorted by weight. Attachments won't let me upload excel or csv so I attached a pdf.
