Toyota 4Runner 3rd-Gen Color Code Chart

I don't know why, but that chart doesn't list the Best color 3rd gens came in, the two tone Anthracite Metallic.
I would love to know if my gunmetal-colored cladding is the same as thundercloud, or a slightly different color...

It's listed at the top of the chart, 1a1. Or are you jsut asking about the cladding color only? It's definitely not the same as thunder cloud, as that's much lighter.

In 1996, there were only 2 color codes for the cladding. Anthracite Metallic Limited's have the cladding color code 156 which Toyota calls Dark Gray.

The other cladding color code is 181 which Toyota just calls Silver.

I'd like to make sure that my chart is accurate, and I was not aware that there was an Anthracite Metallic 4Runner with different color cladding. Could you please check your driver's door jamb for your paint code (first three characters after P/TR) and tell me the year of your rig? Also, if you could post a photo that would be extremely helpful!

What can be confusing, is, if you have a "limited" 4runner that is two tone, I think Toyota gives another color code which designates that it's a two tone combo. For ex. I have a desert dune 97 limited where the body color is 1a5 and clading is 181. A On your chart, it lists that as K84. I want to be sure that's how the chart works? Let's say you just have a base model Sr5 that is desert dune, the color is 181, and not K84, correct? The K84 just signifies it's two tone, and the colors are 1a5 and 181? I think the K84 is just specific to Toyota to tell them it's a two tone silver. Am I making sense?

That is exactly how it works. All the two-tone codes start with K-- for the 3rd-gen 4Runner, while solid color codes are just the paint code of the main body color. EVEN IF THE CLADDING IS THE SAME EXACT COLOR there is a two-tone paint code... which is strange, right? So the only way that a 3rd-gen 4Runner should have the body color paint code in the door jamb is if it does not have any cladding. (I think)

That is why I want to get Dagobah's paint code from the production label in the driver's door... to find out if my chart is missing a two-tone paint code or if possibly the cladding was swapped on at some point after production.

Ok, thanks. I knew that had to be it. Because I sent someone to a body shop that had a desert dune truck and they told the body shop their color was K84. They said that color does not exist. Apparantley, only toyota can look up those two tone color options.

Nowhere on the door jamb sticker does it say P/TR.
But I did find this: C/TR 1A1/LJ45 (I'm guessing C/TR is the same thing)

I tried to find some pictures with different lighting and angles because the difference in color can be vary subtle in most light conditions.

Hmmmm 1A1 is the code for solid Anthracite. not two-tone. I wonder if those flares were done after your rig left the factory because I don't think I have ever seen one like that before.

BTW, I loved that color so much that I repainted my 1997 Civic from silver to Anthracite back in 1998!

Every single Limited that was Anthracite has this two tone cladding (you already have two pictures of runners with this cladding in the Anthracite gallery, 1st and 7th pictures.) You won't see an Anthracite Limited without it.

Actually I just noticed, picture 3 in the Anthracite gallery is a limited, and thus has the two tone cladding as well.

Ok, what is the deal with the Limited's that are Evergreen Pearl? I have a 1998 Limited Color Code is 751/LL45. It is a two tone scheme with the lower cladding being a dark grey metallic color, very similar to pictures 4-7 in the Evergreen Pearl archive. So what color is the LL45? I also have a blingin' gold pin stripe and gold emblems. The emblems are soon to be a memory, but the pin stripe is kind of growing on me.

Anyway, I want to color match my forthcoming Shrockworks bumper to the cladding so any help with the LL45 code would be great. The cladding is also fading in a few places and I might try and repaint it while I am at it.

Thanks,

Matt

Thundercloud was a later color and is too light I believe. I think I am in a similar boat as dagobah. I found several pictures in the archive of a two-tone evergreen pearl with the dark grey metallic cladding that I have.

Makes me wonder if Toyota didn't color code the cladding before 99. Or they had only one or two colors they used for the cladding on the limiteds.

Update for 96-98 Trim colors

UPDATE: The dark Grey Metallic that the 96-98 4Runners came with is Toyota code 156. The 96-98 4Runners only had two color options for the cladding and flares. One was the above listed 156 and the second is a silver Metallic code 181.

As previously mentioned I am trying to find some of the dark grey paint to color match my new shrockworks bumper and got this from my Toyota connection and confirmed it on a couple of paint sites, like paintscratch.com.
