Toyota 4Runner Question

Hello Everyone,

In 2008, Toyota came out with a Toyota "Urban Runner" which leads to my question if anyone knows.....

Besides the 2008 "Urban Runner", did Toyota produce any other 4Runner models that are different that the traditional SR5 and Limited models?

If so, what were they called and what year were they produced?
I am only looking for something from the year 2000 or newer.


I am looking to purchase a used Toyota 4Runner but I wanted something unique.
Does anyone know which year and model is the most desirable?

If you had to buy a 4Runner, which year and model would you buy?
Use will be for mostly city driving but occasional hunting and fishing.

The 2009 "Trail Edition" is supposedly much more of a unicorn!

I think you have to go back to the "highlander" in 98 or 99 for something really unusual. Kind of like the old 94 Chevy S10 Blazer Tahoe.

FWIW, as someone who has owned a 2003 Sr5 and extensively shopped later model 4th gens, I think the 2007-2009 Limited V6's are best. You get leather and satellite radio, and sometimes nav and Bluetooth. I like the way the v6 drives and it will return better mileage. The V8's are highly in demand, so you can get a good deal on a v6.

the "highlander" series was the first 4runners with a hood scoop if I remember correctly. they also had a different grille from the normal 4runners. mostly when I see the highlander models, they are usually the dark green color for some odd reason.

the "urban runners" were not much different than the Sport editions back then. I had a 04 v8 Sport but only difference I saw was a stupid tom tom they added an cosmetics out/inside.

The 2009 Trail Edition is the rarest 4th gen and the only year/edition in 4th gen to come with a factory rear locker. It also came with selectable ATRAC just like the FJ as well as water proof seats. I have one and in over 3 years and several multi-state and coast to coast runs, Ive only ever seen 1 other in person. I think there are 4 or 5 on this forum.
