also, if you didn't already know, the part # is PT212-89070 and toyota says they fit '06-'09 models but many members here have had no problems installing them on '03-'05 models

Ugh... I received an e-mail this morning from Paypal saying that I received a refund for the skid plate. The seller said it was out of stock. I'm always too late.

Plenty of dealers still have them in stock, call around or search online for the best price.

My dealer wanted 175.00 but it seems they are always high compared to others.

I purchased a used one and I had it installed and adjusted in less than 10 minutes.

Just for clarity, the actual skid plates that are under all 4th gen 4Runners are still available. What the OP is talking about is the cosmetic "skid plate" that comes up under the front bumper. It's strictly for show and doesn't protect anything.

That platic one over the bumper is called a BULL BAR isn't it - hardly a skid plate. Seems they were over $300.

This skid plate protects my radiator underneath.

4th Gen Skid Plate from Toyota

I've called every dealer imaginable and no luck. The part number PT212-89070 is the current number, now "discontinued" by Toyota. Toyota says the two dealers on the east coast have them, but they don't. Their systems are not up to date.

Also, the online Toyota parts dealers go to Toyota to buy them, so they don't have them either. I've tried three of them.

Hopefully, this eBay link works.

Lastly, I have a laser and press brake in my shop. If someone has a damaged or finds one that they want to send me, I'll cut and brake the thing. They're made from .125 aluminum plate. I just have to figure out the fasteners and location.

Home made front skids

Chaz, I just ran across this post. Did you make these diamond plate skids? I like them a lot. Would you be interested in selling one to me? If not, do you have dimensions you could share? I know a guy who knows a guy that has a press brake.

i cant make any but its a 6061 aluminum diamond plate 3/16 x 28 x 19. access to a bender would make it super easy. then get 2 rubber grommets ,drill 4 holes & bolt it on. if u dont have an iron works or railing shop near u , there r places online that will sell a piece cut any size u want. 2years ago that piece cost 35 bux , cant say what it is now.

I assumed it was steel diamond plate, hadn't considered aluminum. I was thinking about 1/8" or 3/16" steel plate. Not sure what the cost difference would be.
What are the grommets for?
Did you have a press brake available? If not, how did you bend your plate?

used 3/8 6061 aluminum cause its easier to work with yet still fairly strong , the weak points are where its attached to the bumper its more or less just to stop small stuff from flying up there & a bit of looks. clamped it to a bench & bent it with heat & sledge hammer. grommets keep it off the bumper.
