toyota front skid plate

I recently had my local dealership install a toyota front skid plate on my 07 limited V6
they left a 2 inch gap between the bumper and the plate
from earlier posts ive read the instructions mandate a 16-20 mm gap, which is less than an inch
is it possible the 16-20 mm mandate was wrong, or too close in case of hits against the plate
just curious your guys thoughts
all the local ones ive seen in person seem to have about the same clearance as mine and im wondering if I need to have it adjusted or if the installer at the dealership did it right
also, is this thing functional, cause if not I do not like the way it looks and will remove it and sell it, I seem to be getting mixed messages about its functionality

I put mine on myself and have about a 1/2 to 3/4 inch gap (about 10 - 20mm) between the guard and the front fascia.

As to functionality, it is not going to take ramming into a rock full speed, but will provide some good protection. I bought mine for looks after seeing them on other Runners, Tacomas, and Tundras as well as protection.

I live in New England and with the country roads in my town and the crappy job that is done with plowing them I figured the $110 I spent on my skid plate it would be easier to replace/repair than the front fascia would be.

However, if you want to go bombing down trails in the sticks then I think you might have more protection from the front bars and skid plates. Just my little take on things - which is not worth a whole hell of a lot.

Loosen the four bolts , push up on it and retighten.

Mine seems to catch a corn stalk now and then , no idea how that happens ..............
