Front looks like a hybrid child between the 5th gen 4R and 3rd gen taco. I like how Toyota incorporated a lot of tech and accessories like safari roof rack with front and rear lights, cameras but nothing super exciting. Interested to see what type of suspension and engine they’ll run in it. Potential electric/gas hybrid in the works?

Overall I'd say its definitely more of a lifestyle crossover with some neat gimmicks. The styling suggests a fully independent suspension setup, as does the "torque vectoring all wheel drive system" they talked about. Though I'm interested as to what the "4 wheel lock" function is. Does anybody else find it disgraceful that Toyota throws white roofs on all of its 'offroad' CUV concepts?
If I had to guess, they have taken the Lexus NX platform and added some questionable styling and even more questionable features. I am personally not a fan.

Perhaps to just showcase designs and tech without the restrictions, regulations and limits of mass production/safety. Like you said, concepts are also very expensive as they are pushing the envelope with designs and technology, probably why we never see them outside of the showroom.

Yeah... I know the definition of a concept car. I just don't understand why a company would waste so much time and money building all of the things that go into making a concept car. I mean, that has to cost a few hundred thousand to fabricate one-off seats, dash, roof rack, headlights, etc etc etc. If some of that stuff actually made it to mass production it would make some sense, but I don't think I've seen this showcased technology in real life.

Plymouth Prowler or PT Cruiser ring a bell? The Chevy SSR was a concept as well. Heck the 65 Mustang started life as a concept car, but it was so rushed the first 2 years of production used excess Falcon drivetrain components. I believe the abortion that became the Pontiac Aztec started life as a concept vehicle. If there is enough demand the manufacturers will build them. The problem is once the EPA and federal regulations get their mitts on them you are getting a much lesser version than what you saw in the showroom. But yes, most concept vehicles are never intended for production. Most are simply technology demonstrators with shiny one off skins. This is an interesting concept and should not be expected to ONLY show well in North America. There's a whole big world out there Toyota caters to.

While still a concept this is the second year in a row for this same basic vehicle. So it looks like it will happen. That or they just keep replaying the same crap designs.

Wish they would wake up.. but I don't see it happening. The JL on the other hand.. impressive. I'm almost considering owning a jeep. I said almost...

This is previews the next gen RAV4 that comes out next year on the TNGA platform. The adventure trim just came out on the current gen (ups tow rating to 3500lbs, slightly better clearance, etc). My guess is that they will have a trim that legitimately fights the Cherokee Trailhawk and this is a design exercise showing that. The metal bits look damn near production ready. Tone the bumpers and flares down, voila.
