Nope. There was no factory keyless before '99. All you had was the add-on RS3000 alarm with keyless entry that was port or dealer installed. Those used a different remote in black or gray. The gray was FCC ID BAB237131-022 and the black was BAB237131-056 according to other posters on here. (I can only really vouch for the one I have which is the HYQ1512Y used in the factory system from '99-'02.)

There may have been other systems added on as well in those years--I think I have seen people post that.

So unless you can find a replacement that works with the exact FCC ID on your fob, it won't work. There is no latitude on this.

Also, I'm not saying anything about the immobilizer chips. I have no idea how to look that up. If you have that, you may have to do a transplant.

Ok, my truck is a 97 that came with that RS3000 I think Toyota alarm, black remote... Darn, so you're saying none of those aftermarket key remotes will work then? Was just being hopeful.

I didn't see any that worked with FCC IDs that start with BAB. And what you need is an exact match or no joy.(not just the letters).

You could get a keyport. They are on version 3.0 right now, I had the 2.0 and it was a plastic body and I broke 2 of them now my 3.0 is an all metal body and I haven't had any problems with it. I have a chipped key on my 00' limited so they send me a side plate with the chip inside of it. Works perfectly and looks pretty cool. Also have a knife and light built into it and a Bluetooth tracker to find my keys with my phone if they go missing and vice versa.

Here read this thread, I too have a 97 with the RS3000 and a black remote. The following link has the numbers and info I used to replace mine.

Sadly no, still have the remote. I was told they tried but the chip for the remote just couldn't be slimmed down enough to fit.

Such an impressive thread for such a non-problem.:cowboy: When my plastic broke, I simply had the local stealership cut me a new all metal key and then put the "broken" key in my hide-a-key container hidden underneath my rig for emergency use.:wof:
