Toyota navigation system

For the people that have the factory Toyota navigation system. Do you find north up, or heading up to be the best way for you to use the system?

I prefer "heading up" as opposed to "North up". It eliminates the confusion of turning left or right when you're heading south.

To toggle between the two views, you just touch the compass icon on the screen.

Heading up as well, so I know what streets are coming up and which ones I've passed. Heading north is pretty whacked IMO, imagine the maps scrolling to the left or right when traveling east and west.

Heading up looks like the best way to view the system, thanks for the help. Now all I need is for one of you to teach me how to use this complicated system. I took the tutorial, wow this thing is going to take forever to learn.
I figure when I get the vehicle, I will study the owner's manual for a couple of hours. Then probably flip through it for a few min every now and then the entire first day. Typical guy thing, I bet females never even look at it. My wife thinks you just turn the key and it goes.
The navigation owner's manual, I bet could be a 3 month course at a community college. This thing has me stressed out, plus I have to figure out blue tooth and my phone directions really suck.

The system is really well-designed and thought out. Once you get it, I'm sure you'll find that it's more logical to use than the book makes it seem. The book jumps around to lots of different topics, but in reality the menus have a very logical flow.

Touch-screen systems are the best, because a lot of things are intuitive - just touch the icon that represents what you want to do. Nissan's joystick-based system is terrible in my opinion.

As toto mentioned, Toyota's nav is pretty initutive. (I hate non touch screen navs, about the only thing positive about those are the lack of fingerprints.) If you're computer literate, you can get around the Toyota nav. But to full take advantage of it's features, it will take some reading of the manual. Like all my toys, I've breezed through the manual at least once and found out about features, but when on the go or after awhile, I don't know how to take advantage of the features (memory's starting to go : ).

Uneek, it was a nice thought but unfortunately those links to the 06 nav system no longer are working. I would have enjoyed studying it till I got my 4Runner. My new delivery date is now February. I hate playing with new toys in sub zero temperatures.
