Toyota New Car Smell from my CPAP Machine

I will make this short a CPAP machine helps people who have Sleep Apnea a condition where you stop breathing for 30 seconds or more at a time and excessive snoring.

Anyway I just got the machine and a strong odor from the new plastic hose smells just like the interior of a new Toyota. I thought that was kind of interesting because studies have show this smell is supposedly bad for you but yet a machine that helps you breath is pumping air with this odor. The new car odor went away within a week

Ok...i would not worry about it unless your home equipment people are trying to slowly kill you with the new car smell! I would ask them to come back to your home and check it out. If it's normal, then you NEED TO USE IT EVERYNIGHT. It will prevent many awful complications down the road...which i am sure that your doctor has told you about.

I think the smell is just the vinyl tubing and adhesives in the machine's construction, but mostly the vinyl tubing.

There's alot of the same materials in the interior panels, seats, dash, carpet, etc of vehicles. So I can see where it would smell the same.

But yes, just use the machine unless the odor is unusually strong or irritating somehow. Just use good judgement. But sleep apnea is very dangerous, especially to the heart.

Just think, you can have sweet dreams of a brand new 4R when you are using that machine. That might help you sleep better!

It'll go away with time. When I first got my CPAP I had a way bigger problem with feeling suffocated cuz of the mask and the air pressure but the smell was a minor annoyance and disappeared on its own. On the same note when my humidifier is near empty it gives off a funky smell. Always keep your humidifier filled and change the water everyday.

First of all, thank you for your post. I've been on a CPAP for about 3 years, and it had made a huge difference
and i also think the smell is just the vinyl

Wow, not really 4Runner related, but great thread anyway. My wife says that it scares her sometimes because I apparently stop breathing for extended periods when I sleep sometimes too. How do you know if/when you NEED to get one of those? I would imagine that it makes it difficult or impossible if you sometimes change positions while sleeping such as rolling onto your side or belly because of the mask and hose.

You need to get a sleep study done by a medical office, pulmonologists usually offer the service.
