I went in to Toyota of Redlands on the 6th of November to finalize the purchase of their only 4Runner Trail Edition with KDSS, but no Nav. I went in the week prior to test drive a couple of trucks and stumbled across a black TE, and fell in love with it. A young salesman named Josh helped me out with the test drive, and even let me take it off road to try out the crawl control. I tried some negotiations with the sales manager, who offered a decent price on the 4WD double cab Tacoma that I wanted, but my wife didn't. The sales manager would not budge on my trade in, and stood firm at $8k (my 2005 Tacoma prerunner was worth at least $12k).
I ended the negotiating as politely as possible and went to a nice spot downtown to get some pizza. Josh the sales guy actually came and joined us to check the pizza place out. I kept in touch with Josh over the weekend to check if they sold the TE, and thankfully it didn't sell. I ended up selling my tacoma to Carmax for $13k, and getting the USAA price on the TE plus the military rebate of $500, which brought the price below $35k, $38k OTD. Toyota gave me a 3.6% apr on the loan, so I'm pretty happy. Only thing that pissed me off is two weeks after the purchase, I get on a short ladder to wash the top of my TE, to find an 8 inch scratch in the clear coat under the roof rack.
I recommend going exclusively through Mike (a helpful guy) at internet sales, and skipping negotiating period. Zag.com is the site that USAA uses for pricing. This is the third vehicle I've purchased from Redlands.
