Toyota Oil Filter

Was wondering if anybody has used the 90915-YZZD3 on their 3.4l? Wanted to buy a case to use on my wife's 4runner but also wanted to use them on my 3.4l taco if possible.

If that's the oil filter for the 4.0l V6 engine, then YES. I use the larger oil filter Toyota uses on the 4.0L engine on my 3.4. Just have to add a bit more oil.

I also use the YZZD3 on my 86 4runner, 4 cyl. Dealer parts guy said it fit, and it does.

I was just about to do a search for filters when I saw this thread. I got an 05 4Runner a few months ago (4.0 V6) and just this week bought a '01 Tacoma TRD (3.4 V6) for my son. Want to use the same filters to keep the "garage inventory" consistent.

Since I beleive the 90915-YZZD3 (which I'm using) is actually the stock filter for the 4Runner V8, what's the actual filter for the current 4Runner V6's? And, assuming this is a bigger filter, how much extra oil would it take for the system? I think the manual lists oil capacity at 5.5 quarts.

Well, my son and I changed the oil on his new '01 Tacoma yesterday and we put on the 90915-YZZD3 filter. That filter is a pain in the neck to get to, but it was my son's job, while I stood there and gave directions (Then I showed him the filter on my 4.0 V6 '05 4Runner!!)

I was a bit startled that the 3.4 took every bit of a full 6 quarts of Mobil 1. Didn't think that filter had that much more capacity....manual states oil capacity + filter is 5.5 quarts...

Also put a Fumoto valve on while we were at it....

The size difference between the V6 filter and the V8 filter is very minimal. I posted a side-by-side pic in this thread.

I got 7 quarts in the 4Runner's V8 with the V8 filter on it... book says 6.5. It doesn't surprise me that you got 6 in the Taco with the V8 filter.

If you use the 4.0L filter on a 3.4L v6, its gonna take a shade over 6qts to fill it up. Yes this is a considerable amount considering my dad's 460 v8 takes 6qts of oil. Although, I just like having a bigger filter on my tacoma and a only have to buy one filter for my truck and the runner

What are the benefits of a bigger oil filter? (More filtering capabilities?)

Generally you can run an additional quart of fluid and the extra media gives additional oil change interval or protection given same interval.
