Toyota speakers..!

well i just tried putting in my new 5.25 pioneer speakers in my t4r, unfortunately after getting the door panel off and removing the stock speaker from the enclosure i find that firstly my new speakers dont have a snowballs chance in hell to fit in the stock enclosure. 2ndly it looks like im going to have to buy a soldering gun to connect the wires to the harness. but im more concerned about fitting the speaker in the door, its not large enough to mount to the metal but its way too large for the stock box, has anybody done this before? or can anybody think of some ideas to help me out? my first idea was to cut some plywood and make a bracket out of that, but id like to hear from you guys!

i changed mine out for some 6.5's. might want to exchange yours for some larger speakers. i got mine at wally world and 5.25 and 6.5 were the same price (pioneers also). i had to remove the stock enclosure obviously but they fit just fine after that. there was a little fenagling involved but it was super simple, and sounds much better too. also, i just butt connected the wiring harness.

Yes, 6.5 is the closest fit. Not exact (at least not with mine) but the closest you'll get to plug and play. I am running the speakers off an amp so did not use the factor wiring.

thanks guys i appreciate it, ill look into seeing if i can exchange them, i got them from amazon so it might be a pita to exchange but if not ill build somehting and make a thread on it that way people dont run into my problem in the future, i was also looking to eventually run an amp to the speakers as well i heard its a tough job wiring thru the doors and stuff but it will definitely make it sound nicer!

making adapters for speakers is really easy if you have a router.

or you can buy plastic ones from various companies.

If you think wiring into the door is too difficult and aren't running massive amounts of power, you can tap the wiring behind the head unit and keep the factory wiring from there to the speaker.

5.25 will fit the rear doors, don't get rid of them just yet.

Running wires to the doors is actually pretty easy, so don't let that deter you from doing everything at once. The rubber boots come out pretty easily and there's plenty of space in them to feed wires. Disconnecting the 2 harnesses at the kick panel helps when you're getting everything apart and putting it back.

Alas, I have neither the tools nor skills to do that. Unless you completely remove the plastic bracket in the door, however, I don't think those would fit. I am not using any adapter and the door panel is already pressing against the side of my speaker. On the other hand, my tweeters (I'm running Polk components) fit perfectly behind the sail panel. Didn't even have to bolt them to anything.

The 6.25 fit in my rear speakers just fine. I just mounted them on the top of the original mount but my speakers were thin enough for me to get them to fit. was easy

Im glad this thread came up as ive been wanting to replace my speakers but have never done it before. So I gather from the posts above that 6.25 and 6.5 speaker will fit in the front doors. Are all the brands sized the same? Im asking because I just got a nice new sony xplode deck and would like to pair it with xplode speakers. So can I just get a set of 6.25 or 6.5 xplode's and mount them in with a bit of creativity?

i also had no problems fitting the 6.5's in the rears. im pretty sure any brand is going to fit the same, size for size, depth, however could become an issue for the rears. i have heard of some higher end (big magnet) speakers interfering with the window when rolled all the way down. i got cheapy's so im good to go

I did EXACTLY what Stick Figure did/has posted. I just made a bracket out of wood and a lathe and went to town. It fit perfectly and I also retrofitted tweeters in the door panel twice the size of our factory tweeters. Amplified the setup and it sounds beautiful.
