I'm eager to learn of the fix. A drop of oil in the right place ? Grind down the shaft a bit ?
Is the cruise control all electronic or does it have mechanical linkage that may be involved?
Or is this really a software / firmware problem ?

Ahh...thanks, makes me feel better! My Sienna is a daily driver for me.
I think that the Venza is also now on the recall list.

To me this says more about American supplier quality than Toyota's
CTS, an ETC pedal manufacturer based in Elkhart, IN, with the mfg plant in Canada, is having the issue with Toyota. This is why US made Toyota's are involved.
CTS insists that the pedals meet Toyota specification although they are working on a design to meet tougher Toyota specification.

Just look for one that was made in Japan (VIN number starts with “J”).

Wall St Journal today had several articles about this issue.
The floor mat interference, software, and current 'partial and full throttle sticking', and throttle position signal were each discussed.
But I'm really no smarter after reading it all...
Clearly there is an undisputed real problem here and the U.S. legal system will put Toyota out of business if they keep selling things with a known and dangerous failure mode - thus the sales halt.
Some folks are piling on with 'surprise, foot off the pedal, unintended acceleration' claims. Us old timers remember when claims of that killed a whole line of Audi's in the early 80's. No one could ever reproduce this failure but it wiped out the used market for that model.

I won't receive a recall for the brake pedal. Japanese built Rav4s have Denso pedals not CTS pedals.
Of course I also won't receive a recall for the whining trans-axle ( almost all V6 RAVs have this although Toyota says it's normal ), nor will I receive a recall for the hood that flutters when you hit 60 MPH ( they all do this ), nor will I receive a recall for the thousand and one interior rattles, nor for the floppy center console that has all structural integrity of a box of Rice Krispies, nor for the shift lever that doesn't line up with the gear selected ( they are all like this ),nor for the underpowered HVAC that can't clear the windshield properly in freezing rain ( which is also a problem with most 4th gen 4Rs ), nor for the oil return hose that will eventually give out and starve the engine ( a known problem but Toyota will only fix it under warranty if has already failed or looks like it is about to, if you want to fix as a preemptive measure you are on your own ), nor for the wicked torque steer on the V6.
All kidding aside the RAV has been an ok vehicle but the only feature that has made me keep it is the V6 engine. It definitely has not created the same sense of loyalty that the 4R engenders, and when the RAV's time is up I doubt it will be replaced with another RAV.
And mine was made in Japan.

Don't go buying a Honda or other vehicle just yet....CTS is a major Honda supplier as well as GM Ford & Chrysler. GM is even looking at some of their CTS made ETCs in China. But as for Toyota quality....it is no longer. My dfferential grenaded in 500 miles and now the new one whines almost as bad. I'm on my last Toyota.

So I think its GM maybe that is doing this but they are giving people that trade in their recalled Toyota a discount of some sort..not sure if this is just in Colorado but they are pretty big idiots to do this...it is not like GM or Ford has not had massive recalls in the past and their current situations (debit and poor sales numbers) says a lot so they pretty much need to focus on themselves and thier issues. If they end up going ahead with this discount recall thing I hope it backfires on thier asses sooner than later.:flipoff: Im just tired of this being such a big issue, it is but its not THHISSSS big ya know? Ill step down from my stool now.. I love my Toyotas!!!

:iagree: I did a case study on NUMMI when I was in school for organizational management. The majority of NUMMI employees are ex-GM employees. The negative publicity hit Toyota has taken with NUMMI is unfair and off base. While Government Motors got bailed out, they pulled out of the NUMMI joint venture which lead Toyota to close the plant.
While at the same time GM is offering $1000 discounts on their pile to Toyota owners, how about offering some severance to your employees.

On a side note, Toyota isn't the only with sticky gas pedals/unintended acceleration. News reports state it was a BMW SUV on TV. Maybe they use CTS pedals too?

Why do I get the feeling that Toyota will be spending a LOT of money on lawyers and lawsuits in the not too distant future???
One has to wonder if the lack of a brake override in the Toyota drive by wire system, along with the floor mat situation and the gas pedal problem will end up being the Perfect Storm that will cause some serious damage to Toyota. Have to wonder how the Toyota Public Relations Machine is going to deal with all this.

The damn vsc cuts power sometimes when you least expect it (left turn, oncoming traffic, just a tiny bit slick but not enough to be risky). But not when you are on the brakes hard for a long time ?
