FWIW after I installed the software that came in a CD with the cable, I ran Malwarebytes and it didn't find any virus or Trojans.

Does anyone here have the Mini VCI driver version 2.01 or a version other than 1.44? I have 1.44 and its very quirky. Thanx!

I was finally able to get mine to work, love not having the annoying chime and the remote window roll down! I have a Macbook, so I ran Windows 7 32bit through bootcamp, still couldn't get the program to connect to the 4Runner, so I tried running the virtual XP mode and it worked like a charm!! :bigok:

Yeah, I have version 2.0.1. It came on the CD. It's about 5.8 meg.

I'm alittle late to the show so be easy on me but I read all pages of this thread and am still kinda scratching my head. I get that it's basically a scan tool but how in dept does it go? Can you "tune" lol? How advanced it is or is adjusting the flood lights as about as exciting as it gets.
Is this new Toyota's only or? Because I've never heard of this nor have I heard anyone using it in older OBD2 Toyota's. I would however love to get rid of the "door open and keys in the ignition" ding.

More problems found with this cable. I didnt try the the "Data List" or "Dual Data List" until today and found out that it keeps crashing or i would get an error. Fix one problem with the help of ATV223 and now i have another lol. I tried different software versions but no luck.:dammit:

I tried this software update ( I have ver5), but get an "network connection is unavailable error" and a message limiting me to 29 more connections without the network before software registration is required. Are the keys used to register the software.
What does this mean? Did I do something wrong?

You didn't do anything wrong. Now The CABLE cannot be update because Xhorse stop making updates for it and chances are the cable is not the real Xhorse cable. As for the Techstream software, You cannot update because you dont have a valid subscription. Dont worry about the how many times you have left on the connection. On page 3 of this thread, I posted instructions on how to "renew" the amount of connection if you run low.

Ok, thanks for the input.
So I want to change from ver5 to ver7, how do I do it? I can uninstall the ver5 copy and then install the ver7 with the crack. Or, do I just install (update) the ver7 over the ver5.
The "network is unavailable" is how the program will always run?
I'm using the Tactrix cable. Does that matter?

Its really simple, uninstall v5 and install v7. version 7.10, 7.11, 7.12, is floating around, the newest is 7.20.041 but that is a little hard to get. Have not tried Tactrix cable, although I might because the chinese cable has trouble communication with live data.

I unstalled ver 5 & installed ver 7.12.
Connection to vehicle works every time.
I get the countdown from 30 and network is unavailable and understand how to reset counter.
But, the Customize Function Items when selected are empty. For example, if I select Power Window (or any others) there are no fields to modify. The window is blank without anyuthing to change.
What might cause this???

Not in response to your question, but yet another "install" question: Did you install from the link above, and if so, did you need to separately install a MCI driver as well OR just use the download link software? TIA.

Steps per the instructions in the friendly manual:
1. Install Techstream from CD.
2. Install MVCI drivers. Those will install the patch to make it work.
3. If you have issues with a key prompt or timer countdown, there is a file called "getpeculiarid.dll" on the cd. Search your installation directories for a file of that name, replace those files with the one on the cd, and when prompted, the key in the file code.txt will work.
Prior to doing all of this, disable or uninstall your virus protection from the virtual machine or the mvci driver will get broken. You're doing this in a virtual machine, right?

I had the same problem where the window to change the settings wont show up. I found out the problem was the driver for the cable. Thanks to Atv223, he was able to get me going.

I can access the Data List and can get all live data for each ECU. I can run the engine and drive the vehicle and get live data. I just can't program the Custom Features because they are not there in the window to select or modify??
I will call Tactrix tomorrow and see if they have other drivers I can try :-(

Per my post above and subsequent posts, as well as the other confused posts, AND other helpful instructions/pointers posts, I thought I would put up a quick debrief of my experience so that it might help others.
First Attempt:
1. Ordered above package (cable and mini-CD) from above link. Received cable and mini-CD.
2. Copied contents from CD on to Windows 7 32-bit laptop HD.
3. Installed Techstream software, copied getpeculiarid.dll file to Program Files/..../drivers and over-wrote existing getpeculiarid.dll file, started software, entered information including activation key in readme.txt file, got "cannot connect to Internet" and "you have 29 more attempts" messages. All buttons in Techstream available.
4. Plugged in cable; cable light red
5. Windows 7 installed drivers automatically for cable (bad)
6. Tried to install MVCI Driver for TOYOTA-CABLE 2.0.1.msi file and had "rollback" / "error not installed" message.
7. Tried to connect to car; no connection available - "USB failed" type message
8. Yelled.
9. Tried all sorts of combinations of what to install in what order; nothing worked.
Second Attempt:
1. Download MS Windows Virtual PC and XP Mode on to same Windows 7 laptop
2. Performed above steps #2, 3, 6, 4
3. Tried to connect to car; no connection available - "USB failed" type message
4. Yelled.
5. Tried all sorts of combinations of what to install in what order; nothing worked.
6. Yelled some extra
Third attempt:
1. Obtained ancient HP Windows XP laptop with all sorts of weird sticky bits, battery that wouldn't charge, and screen that was so heavy it kept falling over as the hinges were too weak
2. Performed above steps #2, 3, 6, 4
3. Tried to connect to car; no connection available - "USB failed" type message
4. Yelled.
5. Tried all sorts of combinations of what to install in what order; nothing worked.
6. Yelled some extra
Final Attempt:
*Tried all sorts of combinations on the two laptops with the software received and downloaded "newer" versions of Techstream. With and without AV, firewall, etc. running. In every possible order. Exasperated.
Final Final Attempt:
1. All along it was apparent to me that the *.msi file wasn't installing correctly as it kept failing/rolling back. Even though the cable was red and I could attach/detach in Win XP Virtual Mode; it had to be 1) the cable was bad, or 2) the *.msi driver was bad.
2. Re-read homeyclaus post last night and said to myself, F this I must be doing it right and something else is wrong.
3. Then saw a "....I downloaded the software from SkyDrive...." posted on Tundratalk and thought I would try that *.msi file.
4. Using WIN7 laptop with XP Virtual Mode, repeated Techstream install (using original CD software), *.dll copy, used new *.msi file (installed without error), plugged cable in to get red light
5. Launch Techstream and see some buttons not available this time. Good sign!
6. Connect to car, start car - Victory is Mine!!! :beer:
