I still don’t see anything on where they are cutting production, but I have heard their largest plant in Georgetown is going to see huge cuts, if not shuttered for weeks or months.

Just got back from the local Toyota dealer. Sales guy and manager said they stopped taking orders for 4Runners. He said deliveries were all pushed to sometime into 2022 at the earliest. They are expecting it to become longer as the list parts they are short of is getting longer. It's no longer a matter of microchips. He named about 5 more things they are running out of. Toyota was somewhat immune to the shortages for a while but their reserve parts are becoming more and more scarce. He said for the month of November they are cutting US production by 40% for the entire month then reassessing at that time.
You know if a dealer won't even take your money for a deposit on a custom order, it's gonna be a LOOOONG wait. They said they'd rather not make the sale at all than have to keep telling customers their cars were delayed another few months over and over.

I was able to find a Metallic Gray TRD Off Road Premium today and there were literally TWO other buyers sitting waiting for me to make my decision whether I was going to buy or not. Not even kidding, they were watching me talk with the salesman trying to hear whether i was going to take it. I had a line on the same model and color at a different dealer yesterday but I told the salesman I would call him back. I called two hours later and he said "Sorry, it's been sold." The only reason I got the one I got is because the original buyer backed out after delivery. So yeah, now I have a safe in my center console that I wasn't planning on. lol

So yeah, it's like that now, and just gonna get worse.

I know this is about people upset they can’t buy their $50k car, but keep in mind there are a lot of Toyota employees who are in a bad place right now. Even when the Georgetown plant was shutting down for COVID and paying people, it was not full pay and it put a huge dent in the lives of around 7,000 people just at that single plant. This is going to hurt a lot worse. I realize our luxury rock crawlers are precious to us, but keep these people in mind. It’s going to be a long ride for them. I had several neighbors who worked there and they’ve already been through a lot. All of them are, for whatever reason, not from the US originally, are new citizens, and I’m sure they have not planned for such strange circumstances. They all have a LOT of kids and most of their wives do not work. Long story, but these are super nice and good people who love their new country and I love them 100%. There are also thousands of regular American workers there, but they are much better prepared for this. Again, long story. It’s going to be tough. Keep these people in mind.
