Toyota Tundra towing 10,000lbs.

Today I had to stop at the local tractor supply and I noticed the Toyota Tundra crew was there doing free test drives of the new truck. One of the Tundra's they had on hand was towing a 10,000lb. trailer (Picture a 12ft long open flat bed with four wheels and many Olympic weghts 100lbs each) so I said to the guy I wan't to drive that one.

I must say I was quite impressed I felt the truck towed the 10,000lb load quite easy, I even got on the gas from a full stop and it managed to move right out quite briskly.

I had a long talk with a Toyota rep there and he said "We never even un hook the 10,000lb trailer on that one it's been on there for over 20,000 real hard miles coast to coast"

The nice thing was they gave the wife and I two $15.00 gift cards to Tractor Supply for our comments.

Wow 10K on a 12ft Utilility trailer? Musta been one beefed up mofo of a trailer LOL. Most times the 16ft utility trailers come with two 2,500 lb axles for a combined max load capacity of 5,000 lbs. Wouldnt think a 12 footer would have any beefier axles under it unless it was a custom job for the demonstration only. Even then, 12', and 10K pounds, probably makes for one squirrelly fishtailing trailer on the interstate!!! Hope they got enough forward load bias :awais:

I was thinking the same thing about the trailer ......... I think it was a custom job it looked quite stout. The hitch was a 12,000lb job with spring bars and sway control.

Ahhh that would explain it then. Had me wondering if the Toyota boys were not that smart and just throwing tons of weight on a standard utility trailer lol. Sounds like they had it set up the right way anyway.

I saw that same set up at our local CABELA's here in KC about 2 months ago. That is what got me looking at Toyotas for towing.

I said this in a different post , a guy across the Hiway has a new Tunda and his business is skid steers and front end loaders , he pulls all over the state daily , just loves it .
