Toyota USA$ or Toyota Canadain$

I'd just done a comparison between a Toyota 4runner online from Toyota.com and Toyota.ca. (4runner 2008) I can't believe this.

I selected Toyota four Runner Limited v8 unit from both websites (built both the 4runners with the 10 speaker JPL system as the NAV system is not available in Canada)

USA price $41,649.00 used a Buffalo, New York zip code to generate this value.

Canada price 52,585.00 Ontario Price . But get this if you include tax , freight , licensing, blah law blah.... 63,241.50.

Are we Canadians getting ripped Off. Over $10,000.00 more in Canada. and another $10,000.00 in Taxes.


Has anybody told Toyota that the of the Canadian dollars worth more than the USA $.

Actually, there's been a big litigation taking place against all three auto manufacturers about price-fixing. A lot of Canadians have been going south purchasing luxury vehicles and bringing in them home. But no warranty, and she when you do this and things are in MPH not KM (small things than could be over looked.)

52,585.00 CAD = 53,209.65 USD

So your paying 53,209 USD for the vehicle? Sounds about right if that includes a really high percentage rate over 60 months.

But all of a sudden you add taxes to that and 60k+ USD sounds about right.

Sheesh that is a lot of money.

Given that, yeah, the prices in Canada are ridiculous compared to the US prices - there's no justification for the big difference.

Where have you been? There is no 30% anymore, in fact the C$ is worth slightly more than the U$. But this isn't just a C$ thing. The U$ is devalued worldwide. Not only are more Canadians going cross-border shopping but there is also an increase in Europeans and Asians coming to shop in the US.

As for the vehicle pricing, you will still have to pay all the taxes in Canada at the time of importing and registering. There are other roadblocks but the warranty issue is the biggest. Brokers are jumping on the bandwagon. Check out www.riv.ca for the process.

I disagree about the huge discounts. The 2007 Tundra is now featured at discount, being $2000 gas card or rebate, plus $1000 in free accessories, plus discounted financing. The 08 Tundras are about $2000 less than the 07's, so little savings, considering depreciation. I disagree about the price being the same in Canada as the US (see post by 30/30). RIV (riv.ca) is prohibiting the import of many new Toyotas from the US to Canada.

We were looking for a car for my mother-in-law and I was surprised how much do the dealership offer you. Ok we looked at the Forester, but anyway, we were offered $2500 discount + $1000 gas card + additional 3 year warranty free (this come to 8yr total) + free services for 3 years (free parts and labor for regular maintance). Be honest, we decided to get a used Forester from US

I know that now it's much cheaper to buy used vehicle there. Now customs and Ministry of Transportation doing as much as they can to make this buys as difficult as possible (huge amount of paperwork).

And by the way Toyota is not an American company, the US price could go up .....a supposed to the Canadian price going down.

Canadian Government just made it easier to import US retail vehicles. Now, just to get the US dealers to sell to Canadians. One of the biggest obstacles was the Canadian immobilizer requirements. Now, as long as it has a US immobilizer or will have one installed, thats good enough.

The feds are trying to clear the way and RIV is actually holding free info sessions because of the higher demand for their services. The amount of paperwork hasn't changed. You still follow the same rules to import, certify and register the vehicle. The 4Runner has always been an admissable vehicle on their list. The problems are at the manufacturer and stealership levels with willingness to sell and warranty for Canadian purchasers.
