After watching this new TFL video I have to admit I'm 100% in agreement with Toyota's decision on delaying a move to EVs:

Totally agree with Toyota. EV's are completely a bad idea until we have truly renewable energy, upgraded power grid and enough manufacturers to build them at a very low price.

Agreed, I would 100% fine with hybrid technology that minimizes our use of fossil fuels.

Maybe that's a realistic bench-mark that all new vehicles in 2035 are hybrid vehicles.

That would HUGELY decrease our usage of fossil fuels while maintaining our progress at making better batteries and reducing our overall output of greenhouse gases.

-While at the same time allowing usage of gasoline if charging is not available, or if you exceed your "e" range.

Good for Toyota. Stick to your guns.

I'm all for cleaning up the air and water etc. But lots of issues to work through, and will it actually be what we are being told/sold. I don;t know. As of now acquiring the materials, making charging reliable and convenient. Currently the charging stations near us all take different app/payments etc. Like gas stations in the 50's. "We don't take that credit card" Charging times can be long. Try doing work with your EV and see how far you get on a charge. So are we being sold a bill of goods? Is this just an attempt to shift the political power structure of the planet away from oil? I don;t know. But so far all the clean energy stuff I look at, solar panels, cars etc are very flawed. Made worse by the government.

Toyota is a for profit company. If this is the right business decision, they just made billions. If it's wrong, their accounting ledgers will point out the error soon enough.

How about all the strip mining that will go on in 3rd world countries to get the raw materials for these hi tech batteries? The left doesn’t want to talk about that. Or what to do with the old batteries, recyclable? The whole green thing is nice much like everyone sitting around singing Cumbye Ya I guess but it is shortsighted without a plan and it is blatantly clear to me our Gov has NO PLAN whatsoever. Until we have leadership in Washington it is a pipe dream for now. Toyota is wise to pass on it at least for now.

Just a point from another direction...this just shows that GM still doesnt seem to know how to get it right the first time. Then you add Ford's issues with the Bronco roofs...i mean, how much testing did you do if you didnt test the things to failure?

When things are running well, you can brag all day. But what about when things break, did you think about what it would take for these owners to get things going again?

Additionally, when your iphone starts breaking, ok, you put it down. When your laptop blue-screens you, youre already sitting still.

But when your uber expensive vehicle does this in traffic, well, thats just a little bit more dangerous to your person...i would think. AND...what about if this had happened on a trail?

I am a boater and recently Toyota announced a partnership with Yamaha to work hydrogen ICE concepts. For hosting the batteries are too heavy and not energy dense compared to hydrocarbons. If they can get a legit hydrogen burning combustion engine with safe fuel source then problem solved.

Government is horrid at picking winners and losers in the market place and this push for EVs is not going to work. I also think Toyota being Japanese they don't suck up to government like GM did .. GM made a deal with the devil when it took bailout money and the slept with the devil when they invested in China. Straight up I hate that company . So GM is going all electric and Toyota is holding off . In a decade we will see who is strong and who is asking for more government help.

Conservative govts will be back in power long before the 2030/35 BS targets are acknowledged by all as a dream. Where I live 90% of our electricity comes from burning Colombian coal or oil. A guy at work showed me a pic of his neighbour's brand new Tesla getting it's first charge from a generator after the hurricane knocked out power to most of the province.
If you live in a big city and drive 15 kms a month and like to virtue signal then go buy an electric car. I live in the sticks and drive 105 kms to work each way on salty roads in salt air with lows of -25 Celsius, batteries don't do well in this environment. China is the biggest polluter and they aren't stopping but my gas is about to go up 14 cents a litre for the new carbon tax.
Electric cars will not happen and would not stop climate change. Build pipelines and solar farms and let the free markets decide what they want to drive.

We have a 2020 F350 dually at work with this engine. I tow a 12,000 pound boat with it. It will accelerate and pass on the steepest hills we have, feels like you're towing a seadoo.

Same here, but our agency's truck is an F250 (same engine) and what we're towing is a 34-foot command trailer weighing about the same as your boat. That engine is impressive.

I hope Toyota continues to eye this whole EV fad with skepticism. I received a survey from last week from Lexus, and told them if they follow through with the all EV by 2030 plan, I will never buy another one.
