Toytec Bilstein 5100 coilover 3" setting...C-clip position??

Hi guys...I'm part way through the installation of the Toytec Bilstein 3/2 kit: 3" Lift W/ Bilstein 5100 Height Adj Coilovers FJ/4Runner

The description indicated that it will arrive already setup for 3" of front lift. However, when I pulled my stock coilover off the front and compared stock coilover to the Toytec/Bilstein...I don't see 3" of difference. In fact I only see about .75" difference. I also notice that the C-clip position (where the spring-seat/coil-spring rests) is on the lowest "ring" of the shock. I would expect it to be installed much higher.

I've tried calling Toytec, but of course its Saturday and they're not answering. Can anyone tell me where the spring-seat should be set on the shock in order to acheive 2.5 - 3" of front lift? I'm kinda hanging here with my front suspension torn apart...any help/guidance is appreciated.

The springs are longer and stiffer, so they provide the lift, and that's why the clip is in the lowest position. While they may not look much longer while off the truck, they will not compress near as much under the weight of the 4runner as the stock shocks.

They are closed on Saturdays.

Perfect...I had actually considered your explanation before posting (and my wife...who knows jack and sh!t about cars/suspension...came to the same conclusion even before I said it outloud). Additionally doing a search on here, complicated things further and made me start to 2nd guess myself. There are tons of posts on here saying things like "My 5100s are set on the .85 / 1.75 / 2.5 setting". This kind of led me to believe that the Shock rings/c-clips are directly related to ride height.

I hope that you are right...I am going to proceed with the install (with them set on the bottom ring-seat) and cross-my finger that I'm not re-doing everything when I end up with 3/4" of lift in the front.

When they talk about the perch setting, they are using the stock springs.

How did everything turn out after you got them installed?

I am curious because I just purchased the same setup and haven't gotten around to installing them yet, hopefully this weekend I will.
