Toytec boss coilovers lift?

Folks with toytec boss lift, with 3" lift front n rear, do you feel less stable at highway speed due to center of gravity is higher? I have 14' trail w/ 285/60-18 terra grapplers for 1.5 year now, and it's stability is acceptable at highway speed, but not as confident in strong cross wind. I kind of want 3" lift w/ 33"but I think I'll sacrifice highway speed stability with increased height...

If anyone has a 14' 4runner with toytec boss lift in dallas/lewisville area that can give me a 5minute ride so I can feel how it rides, a 12pack of beer of your picking or lunch at hooters on me... :reddance:

I might be down around Grapevine (near DFW Airport) in March, if you are still looking for an example then.

I have 255/80/17 (33.1") with a Toytec Boss Lift (3") and Total Chaos UCA's. My set up is basically what you are describing with your 18's (32.5"), but with skinnier tires (cookie cutters). I get them installed this coming weekend, and can let you know my feedback on it soon. I live in ND as well.. so we also deal with a ton of high winds.

There are a lot of people in the forums that have a similar set up. either 255 or 285's in the 33" sizes.

I've been running the Boss lift for a while now with Duratrac 285s on SCS Stealth 6 wheels. My stance might be a little wider than what you end up with do to wheel offset, but even when the lift first went on with stock wheels and tires it didn't feel unstable on the highway. I also did LR UCAs and haven't had the front sway bar back on since the lift went on.

I assume you dont have the KDSS mace.

I have KDSS on mine, so it might be a bit different.

I think the KDSS gives the vehicle more stability at higher speeds, so if mace. runs without a sway bar AND without KDSS and it is stable, I bet it will be pretty solid.

I'm running the BOSS Setup w/ LR UCAs as well - still on stock 265s, but no issues with stability on the highway. The only problem I have is that my track is just off enough from the rutted out highways here in AK that it throws me around if I'm not paying attention.

However, any lift will raise your CG and cause it to change your OE handling characteristics, and generally speaking less stability at higher speeds unless you change the stance of your vehicle to compensate for the lift. So a "less stable" ride can kind of be expected.

That being said - with my setup - I have experienced better handling, more responsive, and less rise/dive in acceleration and braking. The suspension is stiffer so it will react (at least I have found) quickly compared to the OE ride.

Thx oeco, hopefully I would get a ride from member here n make decision on toytec install before March ;-)

My 4runner does not have kdss, and I use 4runner mostly highway, mall crawling, and mild offroad for hunting, no extreme offroad, no rock crawling, nor MOAD, etc... So no need for extreme articulation of wheels n suspension.

I switch between viper n 4r on my weekly drive to work, etc.. So getting use to sport car n BOF 4r, hence trying to avoid more body lean on 4r if if I do a lift... My current 285 grapplers are wide, 10" contact patch, and I do plan on adding 325/60-18 terra grapplers 33s if I do the lift with Toytec, so that would add a more wider stance for stability ...

How the lean around curve and dive on hard braking compared to oem suspension?

Pics of my 4r posted awhile back:

Use to no lean:

I have the same setup as RaginTxn84 with rear saw coils, I got closer to 1.5" in the rear probably because of third row. My truck is amazingly stable to the point that at highway speeds I don't notice any difference from Xreas.

On a side note is anyone running their new Boss rear shocks? I noticed they have them now, wasn't sure if they are revalved bilstein or maybe eibach (I think that is who makes the front Boss)

The shock is actually made by Toytec.
The springs are still Eibach.

A quote from Toytec....

"The main difference is the front shock itself. We have run the Bilsteins for many miles both on road and off road and they are a great setup. However, we felt that the valving could be improved to help with additional weight handling. By tweaking the valving, we were able to get them to provide much more control over bumpy terrain and still give a really nice ride. Also, the shock shaft has been bumped to 5/8's for some additional strength and the gas pressure raised a bit to help reduce shock fade. Before we ship them, every shock is thrown on the shock dyno and tested to make sure that everything is built exactly to spec."

In theory if OEM has 4" of suspension travel, using Toytec Boss n raising an extra 3", does that mean new setup can potentially have 7" of suspension travel?

Hahaha - well yeah - I think you'll experience a little lean compared to your viper :D

Honestly - for what you plan on doing with it - I would leave it stock. Looked at your post earlier - nice looking rig already. I would spend the money elsewhere if you're using it as a DD-ish vehicle. If anything - just replace the shocks with billies all around and a leveling kit - loads cheaper than a full suspension when it's not going to be use - IMO

Good luck with what you decide to roll with :thumb3:

It has been stated on this site that eibach makes the shock for toytec based on their specs. Doesn't mean it's true, but I don't think they build the shock in house. Either way Ive been thrilled with the ride myself, on and off road. Wondering if the rears would ride better than the bilstein

Oeconomia Correct, I don't have KDSS.
Jhalko I've heard the same about the shock being made to their specs. Who knows, maybe Toytec is just assembling them there while parts are manufactured elsewhere.
ar15kittykat Not sure what that overall suspension travel is but it's worked well for me and I would guess is similar to the other setups around.

Pretty sure it doesn't work that way as I thought other components will limit but I honestly don't know.
