Toytec Suspension question *might buy for Black Friday*

With all the Black Friday discounts going Im thinking of getting my first lift for my 2010 TE. (I have sliders and plan to mild Offroad on trails with armor and maybe FB in the near future)

Toytec is having their 15% off BOSS kit which includes UCA discount with it. Right now the pricing is:

Toytec BOSS Aluma ver kit $2,048 total with TC UCA package
Toytec BOSS ver kit $1,902
 total with TC UCA package

Is it better to save money and get a basic BOSS setup or go for the Aluma kit? I haven't seen any reviews on the Aluma kits so I was wondering if its worth the money for the aluminum parts and rubber bushing on the bottom that comes from the Aluma edition?


Also DO is having a 20% off website so I can get ICON stage 2 for $2,450....

Im looking for an almost maintenance free, long term 100k type reliability so maybe ICONS aren't the best option for my needs.

Lastly OME kits on toytecs website with UCA go for about $1,700 for a medium lift kit, I understand that Toytecs are adjustable and OMEs are not but I don't think Ill ever use it if the spring rate is correct. It seems the Toytecs are the best option but Im not sure which version to get.

From what I understand and what it looks like, Elka makes the Toytec Aluma series stuff. I'd get the Aluma over the standard boss any day of the week.

Anyone know the mileage reliability on these Toytec kits before being replaced? 50k miles, 100k miles?

Figure out what you want to use the suspension for and then purchase what fits your needs.

Toytec and OME are progressive where-as Icon are digressive. They'll behave and ride differently both on and off road

If you want rock solid shocks that can take abuse like desert running at high speeds, you would probably want to spend 5 grand on Kings. Otherwise, Toytec is fine. The catastrophic failure looked like the shocks were either extended all the way or compressed all the way(perhaps the bump stops that come with the kit weren't installed correctly and it allowed the shocks to compress all the way). My boss kit came with Bilstein extended travel shocks (I think Toytec uses Radflow now). You can ask Toytec who makes the kit you are looking at and they will probably tell you. Then you can research the quality. I had mine installed by professionals who do lifts every day and knew how to install them correctly and with KDSS.

You will also hear a lot of negative comments about SPC UCA's which i got when I got my Toytec Boss lift. Mine have 32k on them right now and no problems. You just have to grease them every time you do an oil change. No required maintenance means problems.

I had these with the matching rear shocks on my 4th gen and they were great. Not sure what I'm going to do with the new 5th gen, but my experience wouldn't make me switch to King or Icon. Mine were made by Radflo, and I bought them for the Red color, instead of the stock Radflo version. Got a discount at the time as well. I checked them out with my suspension guy before hand and he had no reservations about them either. Mine were extended travel which is the only thing I'd change this time. I'm going to check out who makes the Aluma series myself and do some research. They'd go well with my red T4R. Ha!

I did some digging, they are definitely made by Elka, and I ordered mine last week, and got them yesterday.

For a newb like myself can you explain why this makes them superior? I want to get the Aluma Boss Series but almost every thread I find about Toytec, people are complaining about the original Boss setup. Thanks

You just have to grease them every time you do an oil change. No required maintenance means problems.

Do you unscrew the bolts from the bushing before greasing like you have to do with Total Chaos UCA so you don't deform the bushings or do you just grease straight to the fittings? Because if its the same process, might as well go TC if the maintenance procedures are the same

Important question:

Whats the big difference between the Boss 2.5 vs Boss Aluma (non 2.5 Aluma version)?

From what I see the....
The boss 2.5 has 650lb only springs with rear resi shocks.
The Aluma is 700lb only spring with just a diff piston size and aluminum parts/rubber bushing. Which seems to be the better choice.

Yet the Boss 2.5 is around $40 more expensive, even if you add the rear resi shocks to the Aluma cart.... :wtf:

****Ive decided on going Toytec because OME is yes a little cheaper but the adjustability/ride is worth the extra bucks...and ICON is just too much for what I will be doing and I don't like the increased maintenance side and having a downed vehicle since this is DD. I'm just trying to figure out which BOSS model to get (excluding the 2.5 Aluma which is too pricey). Any personal experience or advice is appreciated.

Not to muddy the waters anymore, but You might wanna take a look at Dobinsons stuff.

If I hadn’t gone with ADS, I would have probably gone with their shocks and struts. I did go with their UCA’s (and most of the other suspension parts).

Just something else to consider.
