Toytec Ultimate lift or Bilstein 5100 Level kit?

My 4runner is my daily driver. I love the look of a small lift. Not looking to get to crazy or offroad in super gnarly terrain, But i would like to make a bit more aggressive looking. I don't offroad much but bought the trial to drive in all conditions and hopefully on beach some day, as i surf and who knows where will move to. I was thinking of adding the bilstein adjustable fronts but wouldn't mind adding the toytec ulitimate lift kit if i could just and 2.5 front (which is possible with adjustments) and a rear height with 1 inch rather than the 2 inch. Anyone know if there are any springs would add a little height to rear as opposed to the usual 2 inch rear lift. Rear already looks pretty aggressive to me.

Tires I'm still deciding on... Love the look of Toyo MT and suppose to handle street awesome and be quiet but they are too heavy. KM2, destination MT, cooper stt are options. As are the Duratracs but not sure about the look of the sidewall lugs. 285s in all look the best. Hate that I would not have a spare.

Other idea is to go with stock tire size 265s and add bilsteins to the 1.75 setting infront. but not sure this is going to change the look of the truck so much. would help yes. would transform not sure.

Do i do it half step for a est. cost of $1000 tires 265s, $200 bilsteins +install= $1500 est

or go aggressive and bold

est cost of $1200 tires 285's, $1200 Ultimate toytec, + install= $2500 est and have a much more aggressive looking ride.

My daily driver takes road trips and drives me to work. I little tire noise won't bother me. Making my ride unsafe in rain or highway speeds would be stupid. Not sure if those kits would do that.

Stock TE looks so aggressive but sux with the stock OEM tires. Needs much more aggressive to fill the wheel wheels. I do feel like the spidertrax spacers help push the wheels out to fenders to fill them. as i've seen pics of 265s KM2s and they look sweet. but not willing to run spacers. The 285's tires help come out to fenders and make the truck more purposefull.

Am i rambling or you guys understand my deal?

I just received a quote from NSOR in BC. Their quote to me for the 3" Toytec kit was $1900.00 plus tax. I spent 2,500.00 on my 6" Fabtech kit. What's up with this.:bash:

You should contact Toytec and ask them what would work best for your needs. They sell both kits and will probably provide other options for you as well. However, if I were you, I would get the ultimate lift with the 5100 shocks. You said it yourself, if you decide with the former you would be "half stepping" what you intend to do. Good luck!

The ToyTec Ultimate is just a Bilstein 5100 with a adjustable collar.

Basically the same thing just looks sexier. That is obviously just my opinion.

If you want a full blown coilover look at SAW, Icon, King, Fox etc. If you just want a lil lift and a better shock than stock get the Bilsteins.

Thanks for all the advise. I'm prolly leaning toward the bilstein 5100 though i could do the coilover bilstein upfront and add rears later if i want to go further than a leveling height.

I think 265s make more sense for highway driving... so may do those

I have the ultimate lift + billys, on 285 firestone destination ATs, I absolutely love it. The tires are quiet, drive awesome on the highway and in the rain. Also if you venture offroad, their good in deep sand/rocks/mud. The only drawback to the lift and tires is, my gas mileage dropped about 4 miles, used to avg around 19, now I get around 15.2.

Paid $1220 for the lift + $200 install/level + $600 for tires. Firestone usually has some pretty good deals, got 15% off each tire and good thing my buddys a general manager, got an extra 20% off.

wow that mileage really took a hit. I like the firestone MT. They look cool!

Are you taking into account the different size tires? Or is that just the reading you are getting from the on board computer?

Don't count out Overland Warehouse/Radflo. They are now making a 2.0 kit and it will be valved for your needs. Just contact Andries and he will walk you through it.

IMO, keep everything stock except the tires if it's a road queen. Upgrade the tires to an AT for a great bang-for-the-buck face lift. I have BFG TA KOs and the tire change made a dramatic change in the look of the vehicle. I've retained most of my MPGs, have a great all season tire, and don't worry about flats when offroad. :cheers::cheers:

I found out this weekend that sometimes practical means more that 8-1/2" of clearance. YMMV

I hear you. 100 feet into the dirt with my virgin 4r this Saturday (4 hours into ownership) and the rear diff was dragging over a large rock. I'm all for lifts/larger tires, but there are penalties: always loss of MPG and wallet thickness, almost always a loss in ride quality, and sometimes teeth chattering vibrations that won't go away no matter how much money and frustration you throw at them. Buyer beware.
