I changed my spare tire to a Revo last weekend. The thing is, I swapped both the tire and rim from my dads 2005 to my truck. Both of our 4Runners have the tire pressure monitors so I didn't think it would be an issue. The turned on a day after I switched tires and went off the next day. When I was driving today, the light started to blink. I remember reading on this board (I can't find the thread now!) that if the light blinks, it means that you have a faulty sensor. Is there anyway I can reset this by myself or do I have to make a trip to the dealer? I want to try every option before taking my truck in! I am afraid that they may have to initialize all of the sensors again.

Oh sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you'll need the dealer to program the sensors for your truck. The particular sensors that came with your truck were programmed for your truck. So by you swapping rims/tires with your dad, you also swapped sensors. For whatever reason it will drive fine for a couple miles, then start blinking showing there is an error (Steady light means one of the tires is low on PSI)

Either get dealer to program that sensor for you or get the rim back from your dad and swap tires. Don't think you can do that since you mentioned your dad traded in his 2005. So I guess that 2005 is on the lot with a TPMS light blinking :

so you just swapped one tire / rim?

if so you can spare a trip to the stealer and bring the two swapped wheels/tires to a tire shop and swap sensors. this will restore your original configuration


i think the system light is flashing because the computer is looking for 5 sensors and only finding 4. bring your truck close to your dads 4runner and the light will go out.

Rook, he sold the 05 this past Saturday so I am stuck going to the dealer to get the sensors reprogrammed. I swapped both the tire and rim from my dads truck to mine. I thought I would be able to take the easy way out but it backfired.

The moral of this story is don't try fooling a Toyota!
