Saw this on a vintage car site. I think they have been replaced by the tire pressure monitors to hide them inside the tires.

Yes, and they are probably OK. The TPMS are the bad ones, they have transmitters in them.

Posted this on my wife's Facebook and no one knew what they were. Maybe due to most having alloy wheels now with the weights not showing.
