The TPMS Light has been flashing since we took delivery of our 2005 Limited a few months ago. After some research here and a few other boards I bought new aftermarket sensors for all 5 wheels and had them fitted today at my local tire/service shop.
Now to get rid of that stupid government mandated flashing light!!!
I had purchased a little black box to plug into my laptop called TPM QuickSet. All I had to do was enter the ID numbers of each sensor into the proper location. My new sensors only had a 7 digit Hex number so I put a zero in front of the original Hex number. Once I had entered all the serial numbers and verified them (I took digital photos of each sensor) I unplugged the "black box" and plugged it into the OBD II socket on the 4Runner after switching on the ignition. All that was required was a simple press of a button on the TPM QuickSet and my TPMS light flashed briefly then TURNED OFF!!! At last my system is up and running again without snipping wires etc.
So the sensors cost $60 each, the TPM QuickSet was about the same cost as a visit to the $tealership to have the system reset etc. and I still have my little black box to use again.
I'd be happy to share it with fellow SW Show Me state area members if anybody needs to get rid of that stupid, annoying, flashing light on their vehicle. It actually works with most of the TPMS systems out there in later model vehicles.
