TPMS Model#

Wondering if there is one or more models of TPMS sensors? What I'm finding on ebay (PMV-107J) states it is for 2007-08 4runners as well as several other toyota models. I'm not seeing anything for a 2004.

I'm planning on getting new TPMS for my new wheels since my current TPMS has been going off quite often as of late despite my tire pressure being fine on all wheels. Thinking the batteries could be about gone in them? They are nearly 7 yrs old now.

Yes, '04 TPMS is a different part number not compatible (Edit 07/2011 "somewhat" compatible; probably not backward compatible) with the later one's. Not sure what the part number is.

I have been told that each set of tire sensors are mated to each ECU. So there would need to be some programing or reflashing (sorry I do not know the exact terminology) to put different sensors on your vehicle.

You are correct that you have to re-program each TPMS sensor for the ECU. The shop I go to will program them for free so I'm not too concerned about that.

I found TPMS application chart from Dill Air that gives the factory model numbers and the corresponding Dill TPMS replacement. Good reference for TPMS sensors.
From the chart there are hardly any toyota vehicles that use the same TPMS. I'm interested to know if any of these TPMS models are interchangeable???

Nice find on the chart. No, they are not interchangeable. (Edit 07/2011: newer 107J works in place of older 1017) You don't see too many early models on ebay or sales.
I was thinking of looking into upgrading the TPMS ECU, from a salvage or ebay, to the later version to accept the newer model which seems to be more available. Would need to start with the wiring diagram. Just haven't gotten that far and it probably isn't worth doing.

As for an OE replacement that is cheaper than the dealer this is about all I could find. $47 sure beats $100+ from the dealer but not the $11.50 the newer models sell for on ebay

Update: Recently I successfully replaced one of my '04 PMV1017 sensors with the later model PMV107J part. Did this as an experiment to check if I would need to upgrade the TPMS ECU when changing to the 107J. I had to repair a flat anyway on a wheel that had a bad sensor. The 107J TPMS registered OK so no need to upgrade the ECU.
